As a person who depends on their PC'c to run smoothly and efficiently I highly recommend Avira. Those post you read above that are negative is probably due to enduser frustration with a "cure all" app that doesn't exist andor their inability to upgrade and maintain systems that keep up with emerging technology.
If you are still running a P4 or an old Celeron on 256 or 512 ram ...this AV is probably not for you. UPGRADE! PC's are cheap these days!
