Useful and needed

Unlike most single purpose mp3 file utilities, this takes a different approach by providing mp3 file analysis and repair for multiple issues from a single package. Because of this, the program appears somewhat complex, but the developer has done a good job in making the interface as user-friendly as possible. Even if not used to fix every problem, it's very useful to be able to load up a single program to make an initial analysis for a set of mp3 files. Price: Free

I've used this tool from its earliest versions and it's fantastic. Bootice simplifies boot sector management tasks using a very easy-to-use interface. It can perform a wide variety of tasks for boot records, partitions, and drives including, but not limited to; viewing, restoring, installing and formatting them. Orbit Downloader

Too many issues

I did recommended this in the past, but no longer. Like other software, installation requires extra steps to opt-out of web browser tool bars and such, which is aggravating enough. Also this software is updated frequently, but recently these updates have added features that didn't necessarily enhance usability. However, what really changed my mind is the software updater feature that runs in the background, even when turned off in options, and tended to freeze the computer for extended periods of time while it scanned the hard drive and accessed the Web to find updates for installed software. While doing this, the PC became almost unusable. I'm now evaluating freeware alternatives that don't keep adding unneeded features that cause problems, have a more basic installation, and are updated less frequently. Price: Free

Great software

Although other tree mapping tools have more dazzling interfaces, they also tend to be bloated, to scan slowly, and are generally not as useful as SpaceMonger. This program is extremely fast, provides details about folder and file size instead of just showing bigger or smaller boxes, and allows users to easily make comparisons with a click of the mouse. Surprisingly good

This one surprised me. It is packed with all kinds of date-related features and handy conversion tools and features, limiting the need to open multiple programs such as calculators, calenders, conversion apps, and notepads. Finally, the interface isn't very impressive, but this program's strength is in its usefulness. Don't judge a book by its cover definitely applies here. Hidden gem and worth keeping. Price: Free

This is a small download, comes in a portable version, has a small footprint, and is devoid of fluff I don't need. It works with multiple protocols and has an amazing set of configurable features that can be tweaked. This is the IM to use for anyone needing a highly configurable basic chat client that works and can do without the resource hogging eye candy and juvenile gimmicks. Price: Free

I think i found my new default search app

This program is great! It's small, fast, and simple - ideal for quickly locating files and folders. It indexes extremely fast (within seconds) and best of all, it automatically monitors file system changes and updates it's database each time the program starts. My 38GB HDD took about 12 seconds to initially index. There is also a portable version available from the author's web site. Price: Free

Probably the best music manager out there

MediaMonkey does it all in a very effective way. I haven't found a freeware alternative yet that has so many useful features in such an easy to use package. Although there are some imitators out there, they don't come close to the number of features, clarity of function, or bug-free operation of MediaMonkey.
