take breaks to prevent RSI Workrave is a program that can assist you in the recovery and prevention of Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI). It monitors your computer activity and frequently reminds you to take short micro-breaks and, less frequently, longer rest breaks. The micro-breaks are designed to let you relax your hands for about 30 seconds, while the rest breaks provide a set of exercises that you can follow to heal existing injuries or prevent future ones. You can optionally block input during a rest break, forcing you to cease all activities and actually take a break (Of course you can skip or postpone the break at any time). The frequency of the break reminders as well as their duration can be completely customized to your personal needs. I know many laud Workrave for helping to prevent the adverse health effects of sitting immobile for long periods and repetitive motion injuries. For me, that is just icing on the cake. This unassuming little code has ramped up my productivity about 500. Lets just say I am prone to laziness not by choice but because my minuscule attention span keeps me hopping from chair to chair. All that changed when my wife, obviously fed up with my lounging around while my dissertation is still pending, diplomatically introduced me to Workrave. That was about 4 weeks ago and my research is already well under way toward completion. With workrave, I am committed to exerting at least 8 hours of effort a day, and I persist with my programmed activities until it tells me to stop working and go find something else to do! Sure, I still get to take 10 minute breaks, stretch a little, raid the cookie shelf, and hydrate. If you are lacking productivity in your life, look no further than this nifty little program. It is interesting how long people sit at a computer but simply forget the time. Hours can go by, you get stiff, legs and butt hurt, and your eyes are strained. With the very amazing and mindful program which will do the reminding for you; to take a break, get up, stretch, exercise you eyes to prevent strain and other visuals. You may think at times it is annoying you but it is for your own health so pay heed. For me it has been just wonderful addition to my daily activities. It is a Two-Thumbs up apps! This is a very good program that runs unobtrusively in the background, until it is time for you to take a break. Comes with nifty features like enabling or disabling "dismiss" when its time to take a break, freezing the screen input or not, and different settings for short breaks and long breaks.
