encrypt files as BMP images bmpPacker is a portable encryption tool that camouflages the encrypted file inside a Windows Bitmap (.bmp). You can select any file (documents, image etc.) and the program will generate a fully compatible BMP container file that contains the encrypted file. The carrier image is fully windows compatible but only displays a bunch of noise when opened. To decrypt and extract the contained file, you'll need to open the BMP file with bmpPacker and supply the proper password, which will then decrypt/extract the contained file. bmpPacker supports Blowfish, Twofish and Rijndael (AES) algorithms for secure encryption. This software has its uses 4 stars by OnePiece Jan 16, 2013 (Read all my 12 reviews)
...but not as a steganography tool for sure. In this sense the description of the program is a bit deceiving. I know at least one useful application though: some organizations have very strict security controls on email communication, so they do not accept e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, PDF, or even encrypted ZIP files (that they cannot uncompress and check) as attachments. In such cases this little tool can come very handy. And in any case, it has nice solid encryption algorithms, so it is useful as a general-purpose encryption tool, too. show Review details
Interesting but slightly weird software 3 stars by ianmacm Feb 29, 2012 (Read all my 174 reviews)
Works Ok, no problems. What bmpPacker does not do is to hide a file inside a picture (steganography), so the resulting BMP files are simply noise. Not quite clear who would use this program regularly, as options such as encrypted ZIP files are more common. show Review details
