I had just set up ContraCam on my PC turning my computer into a DVR for my home security cameras. Program worked great with my USB Video Grabber, but was not really impressed with the playback feature so I tried to use Windows Media Player but ran into some issues when trying to play back the AVI footage.
So, I decided to check out the VLC Media Player and found it well worth the download. The video capture software I had installed and the VLC Player are a great match together. I love the fact that the VLC program allows me to play back just one file from my security footage or select a folder so it plays all of the recordings back in sequential order. Combined, these two software programs solved a major issue for me on creating a reliable security DVR on my PC and being that both programs were free, well, you just can't beat the price. KUDOS to both software programmers and to Snapfiles for continuing to bring great freeware to the masses.
Have looked for some time for a good software solution to tie in a Audio Video USB grabber I have had for some time. Wanted to tie my computer into security cameras outside of my home.
ContaCam was the ideal solution for this issue and although some of the settings can initially be confusing, I found it to be an excellent program to turn my PC into a security DVR. The motion detection aspect works very well ( Sometimes too well if it is winter and you have blowing snow in the camera's field of view. ) All told, a great program and being Free, you can't beat the price...
I have been into computers since the early 80's and have used many free programs out there. I find that Stardock Fences is a must have now that I found it here.
With way too many desktop icons to deal with, I find this program is 5 out of 5. It is easy to use and set up and gives your desktop a new well laid out look. The only minor downside was the auto setup if you decide to use that feature as I found it much easier to just set up your own fences and title them from the start.
Very often free software leaves you wanting, but this program does just what it says and being free, you can't beat the price..
I don't normally post software reviews, but after installing Fences, I felt I had to say something. As to my system, I am running Win 7 Pro 64 bit, so I cannot speak for other OS versions..
