Comodo Internet Security

Very good all round

I have been using Comodo for some time now. Intermittently, I've loaded one of the other main rival free AVs, but have settled back here again. Once configured, it is unobtrusive and works without fuss. Occasionally, a flag will appear, asking whether to allowblock certain actions, which just needs a little attention and is not a problem. Most of these flags are just procedure and don't indicate anything malicious. Virus detection, etc: I have found Comodo to be the most vigilant and thorough solution to the prevention and deletion of malicious items. I ran a few tests against its main rivals, using AV testing downloads. Whilst Avira and Avast eventually spotted the fake malicious file ( after I'd opened it, or when attempting to open it ), Comodo spotted it significantly quicker, before I'd gone near it, and immediately flagged a warning. This superior vigilance was impressive and made the others look sleepy. Getting rid of Trojans, viruses etc is very simple, a couple of clicks and it's gone. There are no half-hearted messages saying ' cannot entirely delete the file cannot be deleted '. It's very irritating to have located a virus or trojan only to find your AV can't dispose of it. This problem doesn't happen with Comodo, or at least hasn't happened to me. I would wholly recommend this security suite. I could buy a big-name AV again, but what for? This software, oddly, doesn't get rated by some reviews/AV tests. There is no substitute for personal experience.

Pale Moon

Has become my most-used browser

Given the problems I've had with Chrome, the relative slowness of Safari and the even slower dinosaur IE, Pale Moon has come through for me. It is nice and stable, fast, and now I've got the ' No Squint ' screen magnifier, eliminating the need to constantly enlarge text on each page, I have a browser that is just about right. It's pretty quick, this one. I need speed and this does it well for me.

Google Chrome

Tried, but problems again

I tried Chrome again in the hope that the freeze-up issues had been sorted, but alas they haven't. I had to score it down because I simply can't recommend it going on my personal experience. It's fast at first, which is great, then someway along the line things get sticky and the pages freeze. I'd love to keep it, but until this problem is sorted I am out of here. Pity, because it has all the simplicity I like but the hitches are unacceptable.

CCleaner (Slim)

This really is a great little piece of kit. Apart from being a good all-round cleaner it has a useful uninstaller, too.

SUPERAntiSpyware Free

This one is good

I can report a similar story to some of the other reviewers of SAS, i.e. stubborn bugs and nasties that couldn't be removed with other anti-Spyware programs. My PC is now clean to the extent that - touch wood - I've almost forgotten what it's like to have problems with spyware etc. The program located and easily removed everything that had been causing trouble. Excellent piece of kit. If you're having trouble with one or more really persistent and elusive bugs that Spybot SandD and all the others can't deal with, download and run SAS and let it do its thing.
