Excellent for 32 bits applications4 stars
I can only repeat what others have said about Revo Uninstaller Free, this is a magnificent tool... but only for 32 bit applications (that still makes out 85 of all software, I presume). Please be careful with the Hunter Mode as in the few cases I have ever tried it, it detected the wrong files (mainly because the uninstall info was no longer present on my PC). 64-bit applications will not be detected by Revo Uninstaller Free and you will either have to download (and buy) Revo Uninstaller Pro or use the Windows uninstaller. That is the only reason why I don't give it 5 stars out of 5. Price: Free

Easy for simple jobs3 stars
If you are looking for a one click solution this is the application for you and I mainly use it to turn DVDs into iTouch movies. It will work with most 'modern' releases. However when trying to convert a particular Sixties TV show (official DVD release), Freemake Video Converter insists to convert most episodes to 16:9 instead of 4:3. And there is no menu to adjust this. Price: Free

Quick and simple4 stars
If you switch from network on a regular basis it is a hassle to have to change your outgoing mail account (smtp) every time. This software finds out what network you are on by polling the internal or external IP address and adjusts the smtp server automatically. The only reason why I don't give an 'excellent' rating is because the software only works with open relays and not with outgoing mail servers that require authentication. But as 9 out of 10 mail servers don't need that it will not pose a problem to most of us. Price: Free

First a blogger then a newsreader3 stars
More and more Java programs make it into Windows and Thingamablog is one of those. It is a program to edit blog-entries without having to subscribe to a blog server first, creating html blog pages, category pages, archive pages and all the interconnecting links. A build-in ftp uploader publishes the (changed) files. At the same time RSS-feeds are generated as well and 'pings' can be send automatically to different search engines. Describing this soft as a newsreader utility certainly is an understatement. To create a professional looking blog you'll need to edit the html and css templates, so html and css knowledge is a must. The WYSIWYG-editor is rather sloppy, but one can use the html-text-tag editor instead. There is no (easy) way to preview your blog before publishing but this will probably change in the new version promised for end 2006, beginning 2007. Price: Free

First page is no longer freeware3 stars
First page is an excellent program, although there are still some bugs, but apparently version 3 has become shareware, to activate all features about 60$ is asked. Perhaps this should be requalified by Snapfiles as shareware then... Price: Free

A simple job well done4 stars
This freeware edition is very simple, but it does a neat job. I have it running on several computers that daily send log files over to me and it has never failed me once. I especially like the auto-backup of the files that were send. In combination with a batch file that automatically starts from Scheduled Tasks you can tweak it into a very useful utility. Price: Free

K9 screenshot

K9K9

The best one for me5 stars
I tried several freeware spam solutions and K9 wins over POPfile for its simplicity. A mail is SPAM or no spam, that's all. I have put my mail-rules so that mails that match both the DNSBL (DNS blacklist) and SPAM flag are deleted, I have a 100% result there. Mails that only score SPAM are put in a separate SPAM folder and these score above 98%. A minus point is that when the databases get too big you can't trim them anymore, but when you trim your database once a week (or even once a month) K9 should run without problems. Another minus is the (apparent) fact that the software isn't updated anymore, but who needs upgrading when it does its job? Price: Free
