Licensing model: you can exclude users 5 stars by tjesker Aug 24, 2007
What the other guy said is not true. You can exclude AD users and they will not be counted for licensing purposes (see http://support.gfi.com/manuals/en/mar4/mar4manual-1-19.html). We are evaluating GFI Mail Archiver on a fully functional 30 day trial and will probably buy it. I've shown it to management and they are thrilled. Open source Firebird database means you no longer have to buy SQL Server. $1,100 for 50 users - great price and seems to do everything we need. I've asked the support people a zillion questions via email and have gotten helpful responses back usually within the hour. I'm impressed so far. showShow review details
Poor license model 3 stars by SMiller Jan 25, 2006
GFI's Mail Archiver is a great product but the licensing model is horrible. After our evaluation, I purchased 100 user license for my 85 user firm. Then discovered that every mailbox in Active Directory counts against the license total whether it is archived or not, irregardless if it represents a real user. For example, Outlook Resources require mail enabled user accounts even though they represent things like Conference Rooms or vehicles. Those count. Disabled mailboxes count. The required mailbox for Backup Exec counts. You may have mail enabled accounts for alerts, test users, or scanners that send scans to internal users. They all count irregardless if they are archived or not. And what if you had 500 users and only needed to archive 100? Tough luck there. For licensing purposes the software does not recognize how many mailboxes are actually being archived, only the total number in active directory. showShow review details
