Consumes a lot of PC resources 2 stars by Darwishnov
Google Desktop is not good. It seems to be brilliant in the 1st look. But it consumes a lot of PC resources ( RAM monster, HD burner [HD is working all the time the PC is working, online and offline, foreground , background, ...]) It requires a huge server capabilities to run smoothly. It should be assisting application, not the main application the PC is busy for. It is one of the absolutely non green applications. It consumes a lot of power! I wish Google team to enhance it or change it completely. showShow review details

As with a few other Google apps, this one remains a royal, "pain" that is. Should be called Google Slowdown. Put on a pot of Jo, watch the kids grow, it'll be a while. It seems to index constantly, I would assume it can't find what it's looking for by the 2nd hour of running my hard drive into a coma. Either way, I'll stick with the likes of Agent Ransack or others that are there when I need them, not because they feel like taking my hard drive out for a SPIN. Resources? Where did they go? Oh, Google Desktop was hungry obviously. No thank you. showShow review details

Google Desktop took more than 30 minutes to index my 80Gb hard drive, even longer when I set it in background indexing mode. It also slows your computer's processing speed when new files need to be indexed as well. Finally, when I uninstalled it, it corrupted my Office 2003 installation and accidentally deleted some of my documents when I choose to delete the saved index cache. My advice, backup first before uninstalling. showShow review details
