Needs to log in after the disk checks
A very useful utility if you want to leave your computer to defrag itself overnight, especially as it shuts down when it's done. (Yes, I'm one of those people who standby or shut down their 'puters when not in use). However, there's one niggle: If you have more than one user on your WinXP system, SpeeDefrag cannot work before you log in. Doesn't seem like such a problem? Well, first off, the computer will restart. Then SpeeDefrag will initiate a disk check. These will take quite a while, and may require two restarts. Only after the disk checks the actual defragmentation starts, and THAT'S when you're asked for your login/password. So you have to wait patiently through the disk checks before you can leave the computer and go to sleep. I found this out the hard way the next morning. Also, although in theory "safe mode" defragging should be more thorough, the drives didn't seem as thoroughly defragged afterwards as I had thought.

This release is operational
Works fine. This latest 3.2 release is fully operational, and includes option to either reboot or shutdown computer after defragmentation. No problem, only advantages. Advised.

Works very well for W98
This works very well for a computer that has problems defragging, like W98 does. The most important thing to do is turn off your screen saver before using it.

No status bar, no graphs, no progress updates
Since I get tired of manually shutting down apps, or using another app to shut down apps in order to begin a defrag, this looked like a good idea. And the word "speed" caught my eye, as we all hate the time it takes to defrag. BUT ... when it booted into the DOS window, I couldn't tell WHAT was going on. I got a message saying it had completed analysis, but then, nada. No apparent disk activity, nothing to monitor. Was it working? Defragging? I dunno, but after 3 hours of the same screen, I exited this program, rebooted, and it's back to the standard Windows defragging process for me. Good idea, just needs a few more buttons to let us know it's actually doing something.

Needs a feature
I leave my computer on all the time and I think this program would be a lot more valuable if it had an option to NOT shut down your computer after defragging. (i.e. continue booting to the desktop) That way, I could restart/defrag my computer before I go to bed it would be defragged by the time I got up the next day.
