Returnil offers this software for free now on their website. Footprint is small,system resource usage is minimal and stability doesn't seem to be an issue. Very clean install and uninstalls. Performs perfectly in the virtual mode. It protects the main system partition only. Noticed no leakage of data,files,etc.. Also now the virtual mode can be activated without a reboot. There is also an independent virtual drive that can be mounted on reboot to store items to save while in the virtual mode. However I have noticed that the virtual drive plays havoc on the system defrag in terms of fragmented files. I didn't look into this thoroughly though because the software worked perfectly without it plus I already have a separate partition for storage.

I have been using Returnil for several months and it performs as advertised. However, there is a learning curve when determining where to put your programs. Some programs do not function well when on the same drive as the O.S., especially the ones that are scheduled to run at certain times. On a reboot, the programs don't know that they've already run. I like being able to test new programs knowing that on a reboot, all traces of the program will be gone. Helps keep the registry clutter down. Great program. Still needs some work, but well worth the annual fee.

A great concept which could use better implementation. I cannot get the virtual drive (to save data while using virtual mode) to work at all--and also cannot remove it, it seems. Merely unmounting it does not work. Better and more complete documentation would be tremendously helpful. In sum, wait for the update and fixes unless you don't need the virtual drive feature.
