Can't decide yes or no on this one. It is very comprehensive, but takes a lot of configuring. If you have the patience to configure it, it would probably keep your kid from learning about the birds and bees before it's time. One bad thing is that I was able to kill it with task manager.

This software is excellent. You must 1st realize that it is FREE. I tried many parental control programs that were freeware and found this one to be superior. Rather than shutting down your browser, it pops up a warning window informing you the content is blocked. Although it is true that it blocked the drudge report (news page), it was easy to add it to the "allowed list". I don't have a large database of naughty sites, but the few that I know were blocked. I also thought it was cool that if you search for "naughty" keywords in Google or other search engines, it does not allow the search to proceed, and again pops up the warning window. This software seems to use very little system resources/service/memory/etc. and yet still provides excellent function. The free version is great and 1 click will get you a free 21 day eval of the Pro version with many more features which goes back to free after expiration.

I've got a 13 year old who has decided girls are no longer icky and is now very curious about them. A little too curious. After reviewing log files of sites visited I decided I needed a web filter and this one did the trick. The default settings worked fine except for a few sites that I do allow him to go to and those were easy enough to add to the trusted sites. The setup for this program, as well as the interface, are extremely easy to use for a beginner and are advanced enough to allow advanced users to really configure this program. Some of the advance functions in the free version may confuse beginners, but they aren't necessary for the type of filtering I'd imagine most people are looking for when it comes to web filtering. Anyway, in about 5 minutes I had it installed, running and fully tested to my satisfaction.

I was surprised to see so many negative reviews of iProtectYou. It slows your game? Add it to the list of trusted programs list and restart it! It slows your web browser? Just decide what is more important for you; speed or protection and disable the controlling of bad words to speed it up! Or you can use commercially available software like NetNanny or CyberPatrol, and get less functionality for $49 then iProtectYou gives you for $0! And I certainly don't recommend you to install (commercially available) CyberSitter since it will crash your Win9x systems after uninstalling it! I have tried iProtectYou, CyberSitter, ContentWatch and CyberPatrol and iProtectYou is more stable and function reach then all others. And it is FREE. Thanks, KP

You must be willing to do a lot of work to configure it. The documentation leaves many common questions unanswered. There is no setup wizard or walk through. To speed things up you need to tell IPY to allow the appropriate ports and executables through a trusted programs list. After doing what the game manufacturer told me for ports and .exe it did not speed up. The time allow a range of time that the internet can be accessed and a total time limit, nice, but it still filters even if filtering of everything but time is off, so it is still slow. Soft for You has a separate time control program without filtering but inexplicably the time controls in "Chronager" do not have the total accumulated time feature. My biggest complaint is I'll ask 4-5 questions in a support request and get one answered. That's annoying. What I see here is a program designed by engineers with not enough input from parents.

I liked this product. I liked the interface, I liked the services. I liked the customizability. It provided real protection. But... it slowed down the Internet connection! To the point you couldn't even sync up for a game with another person on an intranet. It made browsing intolerable on a dialup.

This wasn't good enough for prime time. Slow and a few problems. I uninstalled it. I used total uninstall for the install and removal so it that went well.

Using default settings, could not get to drudge. (it's a news page). disabling ipu didn't help; had to uninstall to get thru. pity, too; looked real promising. interface is VG, features at least G, price/value is E (it's free!) but the script wouldn't let me post that. it's great except it worked *too well*
