I recently discovered this little tool and it helped me so much when I needed it the most. I had a lot of editing to do for my TV shows recorded and of course there was a lot of commercials to take out!. Anyway, the coolest thing about this software is that it does not re-encode your video. Load it, cut what you don't need and save it! as simple as that! and no, you really don't lose any quality in your videos. The only downfall is that you can't import vob files but I think the pro version does import vob files though. Other than that this program gets two thumbs up! You have to get used to the timeline because it does not show thumbnails like other editing software, but using your keyboard you'll be fine, dealing frame by frame. Once again, thanks!

I tried it for DV files. Maybe it's not really set up for that. I've got the MainConcept VFW Codec installed. VirtualDub uses that codec without problems. It seems, however, that Free Video Dub has problems with DV files. (Maybe all files--I don't know--I only tried DV and then uninstalled Free Video Dub.) Free Video Dub is very sluggish when scrubbing through the clip to insert edit points. The rendered video had no sound after the first cut point. There was sound up until then but none after the first cut. The GUI of Free Video Dub actually resembles VirtualDub in many respects. Free Video Dub might be really helpful for those who need a one-click solution to convert to *.wmv. I'll stick with VirtualDub. It's faster all around: scrubbing, editing, and rendering.

It just doesn't get easier than this to delete the unwanted portions of your home movies.
