foobar2000
foobar2000 is a bare bones media player for MP3, WAV, OGG and other media formats. It comes without any bells and whistles, in fact the interface looks like a plain old Windows folder. However, under ...

Not enough for me
It's not bad, but it's not enough for me. Program must be also intuitive and easy to use - not (just) because of beginners, but because the time is important! You can save time when you setup the program options, but also when you're using it - all the time, but not with this one. It's not all. Default options are not good, I miss also several options (incl. skins) from other audio players. If you want to know what I mean by "intuitive and easy to use" - and you want also low memory usage, try AIMP! (BTW foobar2000 memory usage is 15 712 K, AIMP with skins and several plugins - 4 896 K!) ... so I can't recommend this player to you, especially if you're searching for the replacement for Winamp - but I can recommend AIMP.

Nothing better
A music player is about managing and playing your music files. No program does this better than fb2k. If you want a fancy interface, then throw in some foo components, and you can make it look like anything you want it to. fb2k is "bare bones" in the same sense that Firefox is bare-bones: the user can make it almost anything he/she wants it to be simply by installing some addons. Totally extensible. Highest audio quality.

Best
Use it for 4 years now and there hasn't been one I like better then this one. Its not as fancy as some others but underneath its simple and clean interface is a power pack audio player that uses very little resource. I have not encounter any errors since I've been using it and its why every time I looked for another audio player, I always go back to this one. Interface and unlocking its abilities takes some time. Just the best player out there and its good for your pc especially one low on resource.

Excellent player for power users
Like the other users said: excellent player but you will need some time if you want to customize it. Like Firefox, it has plenty of plugins to satisfy your needs!

Is foobar, is good
The lite version is just as it says, nice and small, uses few resources. This is an excellent program if you just want to listen to all the mp3s on your system. The full blown special version does just about everything, except make coffee.

Very useful player.
It has a bit of a learning curve, but it's an excellent player that really cuts down on the bloat. I've used QCD, Winamp, iTunes, and a number of other players, but ditched them for Foobar2000. The album list and convolver components are both extremely useful.

Mybe not a beauty queen, but it's worth it
I'm using this one from the very early stages of development, when it was just a really simple player with almost no impact on system resources. Now it still is not at all resource-hungry, but you wouldn't call it simple, no sir. To be honest, the number of features exceeds any other player I've seen. It can be intimidating at first, but fortunately this player works very well right out of the box, without fiddling with preferences at all. If, on the other hand, you want to fiddle... the fun never ends. You can customize almost every aspect of playback - custom sorting routines, multiple playlists in a tabbed interface, resampling, replaygain (setting the volume of all your files to the same value without any loss in quality), visualizations (there are plugins enabling the use of the ones from Winamp too), the list goes on and on. This player does exactly what I wand and so much more. I recommend it to anyone - try it and you won't regret.

Best audio player
It's the best audio player around. It takes little space, uses little ram, sounds better than any other; it's easy to use, reads lots of formats (even most recent ones, mods, lossless...), reads directly (ie: without 'temporary decompression') from archives (rar, zip, 7zip, and others)... and has tons of other features and available plugins.
