A very friendly program. The author has recorded a short vocal welcome, which you can hear on the inbuilt player. He has also included some bio info and a pic of his local area. Nice touch! Clickster is efficient at searching for MP3s, though it takes awhile for results to start showing. It has a useful feature which lets you browse the directory on which you found an mp3, to see what else you might like to save. Found the interface confusing when a download is running and another search initiated. The progress of the downloading file cannot be checked because the part of the screen showing its progress is covered over by the search results of the second search. The program pops up frequent "server congested" messages, requiring a wait of a couple minutes before being able to resume. Updating to Pro apparently stops these, leading me to see them as another annoying nag. In addition there is a daily download limit on the freeware version. Promising project to watch.

I gave Clickster an excellent rating in all areas because it does what it's meant to without any fuss - thankyou Remlap. The interface is actually a bit daggy but it's simple and light and that's all that really counts. Features are minimal and that's the way I prefer things - leave off the bells and whistles and leave my computer running faster. A few times it didn't seem to connect and find anything but I'd wait and try again later and all would be good. I have managed to download some older songs from the 70s that I really wanted and was too lazy to copy from my own records (in reality I don't do a very good job of it). The only thing I'd ask to be improved upon really is some more details on the files found as now it's very much a lucky dip as to how good a version you get. I'm on satellite internet which is fairly slow and don't have the luxury of playing all the files found to see which is the best.

Thank you for our posting and generous rating and I m really grateful you took the time to do this. I will be releasing Clickster 1.60 over the next week or so. The interface has been given a major facelift as it did look, well, not that professional. I am certainly working to provide more information on the tracks found, including the reading of their mp3 id-tags. Hopefully it won t be too long before I have this licked. Included in version 1.60 is a really good MySpace Ripper; with over 100 million mp3 s, from over six million bands. Thank you again for your review and posting.

quote Clickster as a music file search engine? quote

Well..., Clickster works and it is different from other music file search engines; albeit, mp3 files only. I just can't see using Clickster for anything more than a fast file listen or a quick download. The file info is practically non-existent! The file info that is displayed is cryptic and tells me nothing about the music file. The available mp3 files is certainly limited, to say the least! I tried searching several known music files, and found very few versions of the songs that even resembled the requested music file! But, Clickster does have an embedded mp3 player that sounds reasonably decent. Bottom line, Clickster will not replace Limewire on my PC!

Hello and thanks for your thoughts. I m sorry to read of your overall disappointment of Clickster. In response I can only say that I will continue working on this application to make it better. As for seeking to replace Limewire, that was never one of Clickster`s aims. I wouldn t want it to replace anything, it s just about choice and for me, Clickster was and is a fun project to work on. Besides, Limewire is owned by a large multinational company with whole teams of programmers and the financial recourses to make anything happen. With Clickster, it s just no-money-me and so, unless Hell freezes over, Osama bin Laden becomes the next President of the USA and my bipolar goes into lightspeed-mania, I really don`t think I will ever come close to competing with Limewire? Anyway, I m sorry you were disappointed, but I m grateful for your honesty and your comments will encourage me to continue developing a better product; one that meets all expectations...or as near to that as I can. A new version will be along towards the end of October; you may want to give it a boot?

It doesn't get much easier than this. Simply type in the song title or artist and click on the find button. In a few seconds you'll have a listing of titles to select from. You'll like this program!

Thanks Sam for your really positive review and I am glad you you enjoy using Clickster. I am currently working on an upgrade which will be available to Snapfiles visitors towards the end of October 07. The next version (1.60). I have re-written large parts of the program, making the mp3 listings much clearer. The new Deep Search feature returns even more quality mp3 s to download. The download process has been totally re-written so that it will be possible to download multiple mp3 s at the same time and, you will no longer have to stop the search process when downloading. In addition, where a mp3 is located on more than one sever, Clickster will download the file from multiple locations making for supersonic download speeds. As I say, you ll have to wait a few more weeks to get your hands on this update, but I am really pleased with how this version is shaping up. Thanks again for your review Sam. Best wishes Rob

...My only concern is copyright infringement. The author's web sight is vague as to why people can't get into trouble using his software, IMO. The software works just fine though.

According to my expensive lawyers... It is not possible, in either the US or EU, to be pursued under law, criminal or otherwise, for watching, listening to, reading or even being in possession of, material which was distributed, broadcast or otherwise published, in violation of copyright. The legal responsibility, in all cases, lies with the publisher, distributor or broadcaster of the material.
All the mp3 files located by Clickster are hosted on openly accessible web servers and so therefore, the presumption must be that, the webmasters/companies concerned have the necessary permissions etc. to distribute this material.
The legal cases brought by the recording industry against P2P users, in both the States and Europe, were successful because of the File Sharing element of these networks. The individuals sued were all guilty of sharing and therefore distributing material in violation of copyright. Not one has been persued for downloading .
Of course with Clickster, there is no file-sharing. So yes, there are possible legal implications for the webmasters who are making these mp3 s available to anyone and everyone on the Internet, but not the end user.
Another consideration is that, because mp3 s virtually stream from a web-server, (you can listen to it as it downloads) existing legislation which allows you to record broadcasts on on a VCR or Tivo, actually covers all media. The same is true of the Radio Ripper within Clickster.
So don t believe the hype. Employing some of the best PR talent in the world, the Record Industry is very good at talking about "illegal downloads", but in reality, there is no such thing.
In conclusion, there is nothing illegal about or in Clickster and it s certainly not illegal to download any files it turns up as being freely available on the Internet. The responsibility always lies with the publisher/distributor etc.
I admit Clickster, as a legal music downloader, is something of a problem to the Record Industry. After all, there are certainly many times more mp3 files available on web-servers than all the P2P networks put together. But that is for them to resolve, not me and certainly not Clickster s customer base. I, Clickster and its many thousands of users are working within the provisions of National and International Law.
Sorry for such a lengthy response, but you raised a very good point and one I wanted to answer fully. I do take your comment about my website being vague and I will seek to address this ASAP. I m just a small outfit and time can get awfully tight sometimes. Cheers!

I've really enjoyed playing with Clickster for the past week. I downloaded so many free MP3 files that I sent the author a donation. He sent me a link to download the Pro version. It has a deeper search and the downloads are faster too. Fantastic value and support for free or a donation of whatever it's worth to you. Very hard to beat!

Came across this program by accident on Snapfiles. So far I've searched for several artists and got hits and quality MP3 downloads each time. Intuitive GUI and simple operation.
