Good all-round firewall
Rising Personal Firewall 2008 version 19.05.31
I am currently evaluating this software on my slower PC and find it easy to understand, configure and is, so far, problem free on my PC.

Easy to use
Webroot Desktop Firewall version 1.3
I'm having no problems with this application at all. It's running very well alongside F-Secure Anti-virus 2006. My current evaluation has six days left. Stealth operation is available. the price is slightly excessive at $30, considering there are some other very capable firewalls around for a little less. It contains very comprehensive operations and is particularly ideal for novices as the whole program is so straightforward. The interface is old-fashioned, but I quite like that. Unfortunately, the update page always comes up as unavailable so updates don't occur during evaluation, at least not for me.

A little must have
McAfee SiteAdvisor version 2.3.0 Build 6028
It's quite indispensable as far as I'm concerned. The moment I see red, I exit from such sites, pronto.

A useful tool.
Free Registry Defrag version 2.21
Since there doesn't seem to be any other registry defragmenters out there other than this one, I gave it a try. For 3 or 4 months it seemed to perform OK then problems started to arise after defrag. My computer slowed down to such a degree, it required a reformat. The same thing happened again right after, making it twice in a row after using this software. Since I wasn't sure if it really was this software causing the problem the first time it happened, I found out it was after the second incident. This problem hasn't reoccurred since I uninstalled it almost 2 months ago. I would recommend it, but with caution!

An exceptionally fast downloader
Internet Download Manager version 5.08
I have been using this on a 30 day trial and have 8 days left. I am very satisfied with its overall performance, although it did go though a short spell of popping up as if to take up a download after completion of previous downloads when I wasn't requesting any new downloads at these times. Nevertheless, I might very well buy it and keep an installation copy on a re-write CD disk in case I ever have to reformat AGAIN.

A powerful firewall
Comodo Firewall version 2.4
This is a firewall which could be said to be ahead in many respects of even the best bought varieties. Highly impressive and a first class firewall, providing you can configure it satisfactorily. Unfortunately, it clashed with my standalone F-Secure Antivirus, e-mail client, Spyware Terminator and operating aspects of IE 7. I checked all the settings of my chosen programmes with a fine tooth comb and all were set at Allow for the applications mentioned. I checked log and error files etc, and went back over the enabling procedure manually, but to no avail. I was disappointed at having to uninstall this fine application, as I felt defeated.

Quite an impressive tool
RegSeeker version 1.52
I have used it for a week and cleaned the registry three times with it. Like others have stated, caution is recommended just like it is with the vast majority of registry cleaners. Before deletion, I check all red entries and delete my selected ones individually, except for those in the green group which can be deleted quite safely. TweakNow Registry Cleaner is fairly similar to RegSeeker and it's interesting to run one after the other just to see what each comes up with. After running RegSeeker, I ran TweakNow and CCleaner for curiosity, and there were absolutely no issues or problems found. I shall try these orders in reverse when I get the time, too.

Reliable old faithful
Free Download Manager version 2.1.490
Having tried others, I finished up always reverting to this one. On a minor critical note, some DM's can handle a set number of downloads simultaneously, but FDM must finish one before starting another, not that this is a major drawback. It isn't really.

Seems promising
AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition version 7.5.428
I have started using this application on a trial basis this week, and it picked up a high risk trojan which was missed by my antiVirus security suite and another Real-Time antiSpyware application - Spyware Terminator. To be fair, it is unwise to use 2 Real-Time antiSpyware applications at the same time as there is a risk they may undermine each other's effectiveness in exactly the same way as 2 antivirus programmes used together may do. Nevertheless, AVG's antiSpyware programme is probably as good a contender for getting results as several others.

An impressive tool for free
Spyware Terminator version 1.5.00.740
I used this software for a week or so this month (Oct '06). Basically the software is a solid enough programme, but it did slow up my PC fairly noticeably. Another drawback was that the allow/deny dialogue box kept popping up over and over again for software, websites and links I had ALREADY 'allowed' or 'denied', even after a fresh computer startup. There is the option to switch off the pop up box notifier in the system tray, but that prevents you allowing/denying future new software, links and sites. I also tried it on beginners and advanced settings, and neither made any improvement to the annoying repetitive allow/deny pop up problem. If I knew how to cure this ongoing prob, I would certainly be using it still. For those reasons, I have decided to stay with Spycatcher Express.

An overall effective firewall
Kaspersky Anti-Hacker version 1.5
This firewall has varying levels of protection. It recommends commencing on Medium during the familiarization stage and then moving up to High where mine is currently set. The layout of the interface and protection data windows are rather different from other firewall and slightly confusing at first. Nevertheless, familiarity does not take long. It has a comprehensive protection capability. The instruction manual is easy enough to grasp and very explanatory too. It sort of grows on you. I like it, so will stick with it and buy.

Opinion of shareware version
Look n Stop Lite version 1.04
Have been using the Shareware version (with filter) for a almost a month now. I must say, it's excellent and trouble-free. The interface is plain and basic, but it's the effectiveness and reliability of any software which counts, not the interface. Anyway, this piece of software did not clash with my Windows XP Home Edition nor any of my other installed software programs. (Shortly before this one, I tried another lesser known Shareware firewall and it caused DNS error and 'This page cannot be displayed', stopping me from accessing all websites, even though I was able to get online. I tried to re-configure the filter element in the firewall but this didn't work. Eventually, I found a way out of it myself and was able to access websites again, but I uninstalled that particular firewall, pronto. I would recommend Look'n'Stop though.

A comprehensive programme
PhotoFiltre version 6.0
I have tried this one this week. Although it is an effective tool, I couldn't get into it with ease the same way I could FxFoto. Nevertheless, a good product.

Impressive software
FxFoto (Free version) version 2.0.042
This program is excellent considering it is Freeware and the options available are quite generous, more so than many Freeware programs I have tried, having tried at least ten over the past 15 months. An upgrade to the Deluxe version and the other more advanced version are remarkably reasonably priced. I like the idea of your photos being rounded up for you, filed and inserted into the program. I have Adobe PhotoShop Deluxe from 1997, which is still a very effective photo editing tool and Serif PhotoPlus v8, which I bought recently. I have PhotoImpression 4 already downloaded on the computer from purchase 16 months ago. The only gripe I have with FxFoto is that, there is rather an over-abundance of supplied practice photographs and their unnecessary folders taking up space on the memory, but at least they make sure you have plenty to practice with. Thumbs up.

Excellent free application.
Ad-Aware 2007 version 6.181
I have used it for over 12 months and have found it to be thorough and dependable. Considering it's a freeware application, it is first class.

Effective product
SpywareBlaster version 3.1
I am using Spyware Blaster and Spyware Guard by Javacool, as well. I tried out their MRUBlaster for a while, but uninstalled it because I also had another History/temp file cleaner by Ashampoo. In my view, Javacool are quite a superior professional outfit. Over time, you get a feeling as to the reliability and bona fide of such companies. It's because both applications are designed to prevent spyware in general downloading and activating, which appeals to most. They are easy peasy to use too and that's a bonus.
