Backup to CD/DVD? Really?
Comodo Backup version 2.1
Comodo's suggestion to do backups to a CD/DVD is to do the backup to your hard drive or a virtual drive and then burn the backup to a CD/DVD with your burning program. Despite Comodo's claim to the contrary, there is no way to do a backup directly to a CD/DVD. I installed Nero's InCD hoping that this program would detect the formatted DVD as another hard drive, but it would not. I really like this program's interface and the clean backups it does to a hard drive, but I need to do backups to a CD/DVD. Hopefully, Comodo will resolve this issue in the future and provide a better solution to doing backups to a DVD. This is an excellent program as long as you don't need to do backups to a DVD. I ended up going with GFI Backup on this website since it will do backups directly to either the CD/DVD drive or to the CD/DVD drive with InCD formatting; in the latter case, it treats the DVD drive just like another hard drive.

No sata/ahci support
CrystalDiskInfo version 2.7.1
If your drives are configured in AHCI mode, this software does not recognize them. I have used this program frequently when it was a standalone to check PATA drives, and it is very good, but since PATA drives are being phased out rather quickly now, the author should focus on making this program compatible with SATA drives running in serial mode.

Tried the rest; this is the best
sTabLauncher version 2.2
I've tried a lot of app launchers over the years and found a few I liked, but this one is by far the best I've found so far.

A handy app to have
Core Temp version 0.99.4
Interface - not much, but you really don't need much. Shows your CPU, frequency, and socket type. Features - Very configurable. Start with Windows, start minimized, overheating warnings, temperature check interval, Fahrenheit or Centigrade, system tray background and text color, and show temperature for one or two cores. Ease of Use- set it and forget it. Just read the temperature(s) from the system tray. Price/Value - Is there any better than software that works as advertised and is free? I think not. For those who either need or want to keep an eye on their cpu core temperature for system diagnosis or just plain old paranoia, this is a great app to have. Even my Gigabyte Easy Tune Pro 5 doesn't display the cpu temperature in the system tray, and I have to maximize it if I want to check the cpu temps. It would be nice if the author added a south bridge temperature sensor to this app in the future.

Cannot disagree with anyone here
uTorrent version 1.8.2
It's just the lightest, lowest resource using, easiest to use, best torrent software there is, no if's, and's, or but's. The hardest part of using this software is getting your port forwarded on your modem, but portforward.com is a big help since they have begun offering detailed instructions on how to port forward a wide variety of modems.

The best I`ve tried
Fast Duplicate File Finder version 1.0.0.0
Does a good job in finding duplicates. The preview feature is a plus to be sure the dupes are really dupes; have not seen this feature in all other freeware dupe finders I've tried.

Does an excellent job
Easy Duplicate Finder version 2.1
Can't find any fault with this software. Does what it advertises and does it well.

Very nice
NexusFile version 5.0 BETA 7
Great looking interface, easy to use, better than standard Explorer. It would be perfect if it supported tabs.

Has serious flaws
Xion Audio Player version 1.0.95
This player sounds great; the best of any I've ever tried. However, there is a serious problem with it. When you load up a playlist and set it to random play, it doesn't remember which songs it has played and which it has not. The effect is that it will play some songs a second time without even playing some the first time. It used to have a problem skipping when playing a song, but that has been fixed. If the developers could work out the simple bugs it has, bugs that all other MP3 players do not have, this would be the premier player available. I believe that the authors of this software release their product before thoroughly testing it. If they did test it before releasing it, these simple flaws should be easy to catch and fix.

Needs some work
AIMP2 version 2.11
This is a very nice player, but there is one issue that needs to be addressed. The sound it produces is somewhat thin and tinny. If the developer can rectify this problem by giving it a fuller sound, it would be a killer app. There are some nice skins for it, and it doesn't use a lot of resources.

Lacks one critical feature
Orbit Downloader version 2.5.1
It's fast, and the interface is user friendly, but if I want a downloaded file to be renamed, I want to rename it myself rather than letting the app choose the name it wants. This would download manager be perfect if it would allow you to choose what you want to rename a file to. Is anybody listening? If you don't mind the extra hassle and extra steps required to rename the file after it is downloaded, then this is the download manager for you; it's better than the rest. But if you want more control over where the file is downloaded to and what name you want to give it should a file of the same name exist in the download location, then it's not. I have used Fresh Download for years because it offers this option whereas most other download managers do not.

Thank you!
NSIS Media Remover version 1.1
I found some remnants of the NSIS malware on my computer after running this program. I thought I had gotten it all with previous attempts at uninstalling the garbage, but some of it was still on my computer although it was inactive. This malware is difficult to get rid of, and I'm glad that someone finally took it seriously and provided a sure method for removal of ALL the components it installs. If you are hounded by popups generated by this malware, NSIS Media Remover appears to be the way to shut them down.

Nice little media player
Spider Player Basic version 1.81
Plays great. Looks great. Easy to use. Could use a wider variety of skins as there are only a few available. Uses very little resources.

Mandatory windows care
Advanced SystemCare Free version 2.10
Worked great for me. I also turned about 5 people on to this software, and all of them were amazed at the results after running the scan and repair. Systems run more efficiently and quickly, and all those weird quirks that happen to Windows over time are repaired and normal OS operation is restored.

The only tagger i use
Mp3Tag version 2.36
I have used this software for years and have not found an equal. It just keeps getting better with each new version. It's simple to use, very stable, and has a great interface. It's one of only a few free programs that I actually felt was worth sending the author a donation for. I was disappointed at one point that the author chose to eliminate coverage for Win 98, but now that I have XP, all's well.

Too many nags
SmartFTP version 2.0.996.17
Too many nag screens afteer the 30-day free trial is up. I prefer Core FTP due to the fact that the free version really is free; in addition, it has all the features that Smart FTP does and is way more stable.

Crashed on 2 different computers
BCArchive version 1.06
I've been using this software from v. 1.02 or 1.03 and never had a problem. I initially installed 1.06 on a computer as an upgrade to 1.05. The first time I tried to start it, I got a "this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down" message, and I got one everytime I tried to run it. I then installed it on a computer that had never had any previous versions thinking that made might be an upgrade problem. It wasn't; the program crashed on that one too. I'm thinking that maybe they didn't test this version on Win 98 before releasing it.

Excellent!
POP Peeper version 2.3.1
I was using another program to check my POP3 accounts, but POP Peeper also allows me to check my non-POP3 accounts, such as Yahoo, Lycos, and Excite. This also keeps these non-POP3 accounts from being closed due to inactivity if I forget to check them. HIGHLY recommended.

Great free media player
jetAudio Basic version 6.0.4
It comes with a bunch of extra features that make it almost a complete package. It's not a resource hog like other players. The quality of playback is better than the program I have been using, and it uses very little system resources compared to a lot of other media players. The interface is a bit cluttered, but that is due to the many features the player provides; it makes it a little difficult to navigate at first, but once the controls are learned, operation is very easy. I have not used the ripper or burner yet, so I can't offer an opinion on either of those at this point. The ripper won't rip to MP3 format, but it will rip to OGG (CBR, VBR, and ABR)and other formats. For only $8.95, MP3 capability can be added to the ripper, and that's still a small price to pay for a full-featured media player with great sound quality.

A very good basic mp3 editor
mp3DirectCut version 1.35
The software is a very small, stand-alone program, but it is very useful when editing MP3's. In fact, I found it preferable to using a large program to do the MP3 editing. The only real problem with it is that it is a bit difficult to understand at first, but after doing a few MP3's, the procedures can be easily acquired. The online help file was somewhat helpful, but the best way to learn to use the program is to actually make some cuts yourself. There was no change in quality of the saved files after cuts were made. It is suggested that you download the latest version of LAME and unzip it to the MP3 DirectCut folder.
