Great archiver alternative

For those who have clicked away a million nag popups in programs like WinZip or WinRAR, 7-Zip is a welcome alternative. The functions and interface are similar to both aforementioned programs, though a bit more plain. Plenty of features and compression options, a wide array of supported archive formats, and shell integration make it quite useful and effective.

The claim that this software is useless is entirely false. It says right in the description: NON-PROPRIETARY. PDFs and DOCs won't work. That aside, this application does what it says. I didn't try any binary merge like the MP3 and MPEG example. I was looking for a simple tool that could merge text. It did just that with no problem. The interface is simple and very clear, and its few functions are laid out in menus and buttons in a logical order. Small and not bulky at all, clocking in only 100 kilobytes for the executable. A very simple, well written program. Only complaint: Terrible name. ;)
