Hassle free synchronisation
SyncBack version 3.2.14
In the era of portable hard disks and easier backup options (like USB, DVD, etc), SyncBack is a lifesaving utility. Even in its freeware version, SyncBack packs all the right features to compare 2 folders (and sub folders) and ensure data between them is always in sync. If some file is deleted in either source or destination, SyncBack lets you decide which way to copy, set override defaults or do nothing (skip). It has multiple profiles for managing multiple storage. The SE version costs $30 and is well worth the money. For basic hasslefree backup, SyncBack freeware is highly recommended

Fast and smooth
Opera version 8.51
I have been using Opera for over 4 years now, maybe more. The latest version is FREE, removing the last excuse for IE victims to not seek help. I cannot imagine anyone who has used Opera for more than a week, to ever move back to IE or even Mozilla. Mozilla Firefox is similar to Opera (as well as an ally in the war against IE Domination). However, in an attempt to pack in all features, it is a bulky program (much like IE). Opera on the other hand, at just 3.5MB, offers most functions at BLAZING FAST speeds! The web page rendering itself is quite fast and recovering pages from Cache is faster. Much better than IE or Firefox. You can navigate most of the functions without needing the mouse, using KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS. Negatives: Websites that use IE proprietary stuff do not work well. Example: www.citibank.com Barring a few (barely 2%) websites that are not written as per generic standards, Opera fits ALL requirements! 10 Star Rating :-)

Another winner from google
Picasa version 2.1
Picasa follows the Google philosophy of making things fast and simple. No frills, no loading times, no settings. Picasa works quietly, quickly and with minimal human intervention. The timeline, auto scan of image folders, labeling of images (tags), inline movie viewer (MOV files) and a slick interface make it a very easy to use product. One of the best image viewers around.

Compulsory download
SlickRun version 3.5.3.25
The software is so unobtrusive, took me a while to detect it was running. From then on, using it is as intuitive as falling in love....

Free and simple
War FTP version 1.65
This is the oldest free FTP Server available. It is very simple to use and can be made up with hardly 1-2 settings. Very useful to transfer files between Linux and Windows for a novice networker.
