Definitely a `can`t-live-without-it`
SUPERAntiSpyware (Free Edition) version 3.9
I have used SUPERAntiSpyware (Free Edition) on my several computers for quite some time. It seems to be one of the best -- runs smoothly with no problems, adequate features. Certainly a good addition to your security fortress.

Kind of "iffy"
Spyware Terminator version 2.0.1.224
After using it on a couple of my laptops for a couple of weeks recently I discovered that it tends to slow down a lot. Has some excellent features, but kind of tedious to use. Might also cause some conflicts with other anti-spyware software. The Spyware Terminator program seems to slowly lose integrity after a time and develop glitches.

Didn't seem to run smoothly
Karens TimeSync version 1.13
I downloaded Karens TimeSync to an older IBM ThinkPad with Windows2000 OS. It worked for a few days, but then seemed somewhat glitchy. There are others which run efficiently with less problems.

Just average...many better ones available.
Windows Defender version 1593
I have tried Windows Defender a few times over several years on different PCs/laptops. Like many other Microsoft freeware programs it seems somewhat mediocre -- there are quite a few better Adware/Spyware scanners to be found. Microsoft doesn't bother to improve or upgrade programs it offers as freeware even when more efficient, better ones become available.

Used it for several years
SymmTime version 2007
I have used SymmTime for several years on several laptops. This is probably the best time synchronizer and multiple time zone monitor available. An excellent piece of software. I have family/business interests in a few different time zones worldwide and traveling between them I find SymmTime essential.

Not essential, but handy
AbsoluteShield Internet Eraser Lite version 2.51
I have used Absolute Shield Internet Eraser Lite for several years on all my personal and work computers. It's a good privacy cleaner and erases cookies and internet tracks thoroughly so they're unrecoverable. Keep it handy to kick it in when you do periodic clean-ups/anti-virus/anti-spyware scans.

Not quite what it used to be
Ad-Aware 2007 version 1.06r1
AdAware used to be excellent; however, it is becoming a bit outmoded compared to newer, faster, more efficient paid and freeware anti-spyware scanners. Even "AdAware SE plus edition" (paid version) now leaves a bit to be desired. Free or paid AdAware versions sometimes are now also prone to glitch when you have other, newer anti-spyware installed, and sometimes won't let you download updates from Lavasoft's website. But if you can get AdAware to run with no such problems, it is a handy extra scanner -- I would NOT depend on it as an essential tool these days.

Not too impressed
ArGoSoft Time Synchronizer version 1.0.0.6
I downloaded this on an older IBM ThinkPad with Windows 2000 OS. It worked for a few days then wouldn't update, gave ERROR messages and wouldn't connect to any server when I tried to synchronize manually.

Looks nice but a bit of a bomb!
NASA World Wind version 1.4
Compared to Google Earth this one is a bit of a bomb. It uses a lot of HD space! Functionality is probably the biggest issue; it runs very slowly! There are quite a few glitz-y, flashy features, but I think most of them would be rather useless for a majority of users -- depending on your interests. Most of the views/imagery for areas of the world I have a personal interest(where I have family) substantially lack definition and clarity.

Excellent dictionary
TheSage version 1.4.0
I have used TheSage for a couple of years plus! It's a very useful tool, easy to use, functions cleanly.

Good ol' reliable zonealarm
ZoneAlarm version 7.0
The free version is good. The Pro version is excellent. NEVER use McAfee AntiVirus (or certain other McAfee products) with ZoneAlarm as there are serious conflicts and McAfee will cause your computer to lockup as it boots. It is then very difficult, if not almost impossible, to then uninstall McAfee AntiVirus and you may be forced to reformat your hard disk and reinstall the OS.

An excellent program
BitDefender Free Edition
I've used Bit Defender for years. It's an excellent adjunct to your main AntiVirus programs. For ICQ and Windows Messenger users you can also use BitDefender for ICQ and BitDefender for Windows Messenger for added protection.

I'm thinking of using it on all our computers
Kaspersky Anti-Virus
I have used a newer version of this software purchased in Russia on my most recent trip there with one of my laptops. It's probably one of the best firewalls out there now, has seen marked improvement as new versions come out.

Still has glitches after several years
Virtual Desktop Manager Powertoy version 1.0
This program has always proved to be a little bit dice-y for many potential users. I've tried installing it several times on several computers with Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista most recently with mixed results, but none of them running smoothly. Microsoft would have something really useful here for some people if they would fix it!

Some time zones are incorrect
WorldTime version 6.0.0.941
Some time zones used in WorldTime are NOT accurate. Example: Times shown for Barnaul and Novosibirsk (Russia) are off by an hour (they should be GMT +6 hrs., not GMT +7 hours). I have noticed this now for more than 2 years running and have contacted Pawprint.net, the publisher, but they do not bother to correct the program errors. Daylight Savings Time changes for certain geographic locations also sometimes do not take place on the proper date; the program apparently is not updated when different locales change their local date for the Spring and Fall time changes. In my opinion, WorldTime is not worth a 4-star rating, I'd give it a 1- or 2-star rating at most.
