Very good
Online Armor Free version 4.0.0.10
I've been using this for a while now. I was looking for the best leak-test performer and general robust firewall at a reasonable price ( free ). Online Armor ( free version ) outperformed most of the paid firewalls, which is why I downloaded it. Subsequent leak test checks etc backed up what the reviews had been saying. All in all, really good value. I don't want anything too complicated or demanding, and though this flags up now and then when I'm uninstalling a program or whatever, it's no real bother. To my knowledge, there isn't a better free firewall out there. I used ZA, Comodo for a while but prefer this software. Definitely worth a try and maybe check out some reviews first to get an idea of its ranking up against others, and then see how you get on with it. I'm well pleased.

This one is good
SUPERAntiSpyware (Free Edition) version 4.26.1004
I can report a similar story to some of the other reviewers of SAS, i.e. stubborn bugs and nasties that couldn't be removed with other anti-Spyware programs. My PC is now clean to the extent that - touch wood - I've almost forgotten what it's like to have problems with spyware etc. The program located and easily removed everything that had been causing trouble. Excellent piece of kit. If you're having trouble with one or more really persistent and elusive bugs that Spybot SandD and all the others can't deal with, download and run SAS and let it do its thing.

Excellent
Avira AntiVir Personal version 9.0.0.386
I've tried all the free anti-virus software, and have used Kaspersky paid version. Though Kaspersky is very good, I've found that Avira is just less hassle and on top of this, the personal version is free. I read reviews of all of them, and to be frank there's nothing out there that can beat Avira, paid or unpaid, so it's a bit of a no-brainer. I have absolutely no problem with a nag screen popping up - it's a small price to pay for such an excellent piece of software and it's hardly a big deal just to click ' OK ' to remove it! Avira stops everything, end of story. Once loaded, that's it, forget about it. I had the free version years ago, which was a good enough, but evolution has made this into a heavy-duty, easy-to-use, brilliant anti-virus. 5 Stars, Excellent. Oh, almost forgot - and it updates itself automatically and frequently. The icing on the cake.
