1st program I install on every new computer
MacroMaker version 2.0.0.4
Some of the features of this program take a little while to get the hang of, but the ability it gives you to create simple macros VERY easily far outweighs that. I mostly use the HotKey Macros and Word/Phrase Macros to type long bits of code and other information that I use daily. Has a menu to insert many common keyboard, window, clipboard, and system functions.

Nice media player for lyrics lovers
Teen Spirit version 0.9.427
It may not be as pretty and polished as WMP, but it has great media info retrieval features. It scanned my folders and was able to download artist and album information as well as complete lyrics for almost all of my songs. You may have to edit the tags if some of your files are mistagged or incomplete, but it's easy to do through the properties dialogue. Some things that could use improvement are the ability to customize the interface, drag and drop renaming (ie: drag from playlist to the artist name to have the tags adjusted automatically like in WMP), and better equalizer capabilities. However, I just started using it and I haven't fully explored the program to see if I can tweak these things yet.

Nice desktop blogging app
w.bloggar version 3.02
Since the update of this software and the added option to support valid XHTML I use this tool more often than my browser based blogging interface. It can be a little bit tricky to set up interaction with your server and you might have to tweak the preview tab by adding a few hand coded styles in order for it to accurately reflect how the post will look in your blog, but it's not too hard. Also, since the upgrade I sometimes get some sort of File Read Error when I post and publish to my blog, but it may be a problem with my blog configuration... I'm not sure. I haven't worried about it too much because despite the error message, it posts the message successfully. I like the ease of adding tags into posts, the ability to autosave your working draft so that it is displayed when you start the program, the built in preview, and the ability to store your connection settings and easily choose which blog or category you want to post in.

Good for experienced php coder - not beginner
PHP Designer 2006 version 3.0.6
This program is quite good if you are an experienced PHP coder but is rather confusing if you aren't familiar with the language yet. For example, it contains an extensive library of classes and functions, however there is no explanation as to what most of them do. It would be much more helpful to the beginner if it had some preloaded extension-like features that would facilitate integration. One other problem I noticed was that the interface is a little crowded, although you can customize it to suit your needs. Some benefits of the software are organized insertable functions, several skins/themes for the program, code coloring, and of course the fact that it's free. As I said it's a great program to use if you are a PHP programmer looking for a free tool to edit code, but there are way too many complicated options for someone trying to learn the language.
