FreeCommander is very fast, flexible and a VERY easy to use two panels file manager. For those who love Norton Commander, this is a suitable replacement. It has many keyboard shortcuts for keyboard users. It can remember those folders you visit often by adding them to your favorite. You can also saves the layout, including current active/inactive folders. When right click on a file/folder, it gives complete Explorer right click context menu. It does not use too much memory as Explorer does and it does not have a built-in browser. It performs one function - File Manager and it does an marvelous job. There are many file managers, free and otherwise. freeCommander is the best you can find!

Mozilla Firefox

qleft  Can't live without the firefox  qright

Mozilla Firefox version 1.04
  • Interface: 5

  • Ease of use: 5

It's tab feature allows you to have one window instead of many windows. It's secure. When there is an issue, they fix it FAST! You customize it by adding "extensions". There are many. You can change how it looks by adding "themes". Built in popup blocker. All the toolbars is very customizable. It has features that I can't live without. The only drawback is that if a site targets IE and uses special feature that only IE supports, then you can't use Firefox. As a matter of fact, you can't use anything other than IE or IE clone. Be sure to try "Tab Mix" extension. It combines several very useful extension into one. Firefox is also a leader in standardization. It's also free, including those theme and extensions. Support is great. Thanks to the wonderful Open Source community. Opera is also a great browser if you don't mind those ads. For a web developer, Firefox provides more tools than all others!

FreeRAM XP

qleft  The best memory manager!!  qright

FreeRAM XP version 1.40
  • Interface: 5
  • Features: 5
  • Ease of use: 5
  • Value: 5

I've tried several different memroy manager ... All offer some unique features. FreeRam XP Pro is the best!! It was able to get more memory back than ... ... is aggressive but it slows you down when it frees too much memory. Re-open application window (was minimized) causes memory swap. FreeRam XP Pro is VERY stable and restores the memory took by applications after I close them. Re-open application is fast with FreeRAM XP Pro installed. It does not exhibit any of the problem other tools presents. You can't beat the price either. It's FREE!! The author not only provide a great tool, he/she took time to place helpful information right where you need it. It provides useful information in a unconventional way. The usage was simple. Once you install it and configure it, you can forget about it while it resides in the system tray to do its job. My XP SP2 has been up for 3 days plus and it works like when I first boot it up.
