"the" tool to merge and diff!
WinMerge version 2.0.0.3
I use this tool quite often and from the last stable version (2.0.2) to the current experimental build, I've used almost every version. And I stuck to this last one, the recent 2.1.7.4. I used commercial concurrent as BeyondCompare, but WinMerge is just a little behind (due mainly to its less easy directory comparison interface). It's a great work that deserve great rewards. I only have two wishes: a better directory comparison interface and and integration with CVS (anyway, it's already possible to integrate it with TuroiseCVS, and both do the job, so...). Just try it!

A free program we must support
IZArc version 3.4.1.6
It's a very good graphical zip utility. Even if I personally dislike the icons it displays in the explorer... Indeed one of the firsts programs to support the 7-Zip format as a complement of the usual ones (rar, ace, zip...). A real concurrent for commercial zip programs. And a very good one indeed.

The real compressor
7-Zip version 3.13
7-Zip not only proposes its own compression format, it recognizes a lot of others. I adopted it because of its efficiency while zipping files and its wonderful quickness in unzipping (trying to unzip the full javadoc with different archiver is for me a good test that 7-Zip passed easily). Its interface is cheap but I mainly use it through the contextual menu. And I love its icons: perfectly readable. A must have.

When small and simple mean "good"
Download Express version 1.5.233 SR1
A small utility that is almost invisible but always there to insure your downloads. I used other good download managers before, with a whole bunch of features, but in fact, for an everyday use, you just want to download for good the files you click on. And Download Express does it. The only missing feature is in fact an advanced one not given for free: the ability to reduce your download windows to system tray. But, god damn it, I can live without, otherwise I'll certainly simply buy this feature: this program just worths it!

The efficience of simplicity
JDiskReport version 1.21
A simple tool that does its works just well. It's quick and easy to use. You can see the information you want in a glance. That was the kind of tool I thought I would use just once and uninstall but indeed, it's so damn good and simple that I kept it as my disk space occupation guard/reporter. Give it a try!
