Simplicity is a virtue
XXCopy version 2.85.9
I have had XXCOPY for many years and find it a very powerful tool - its simplicity and versitility is its real strength. The owner has done a tremendous job over YEARS keeping it up to date and refining its functions, so I think he has every right to ask for payment after 90days use.

What is the fuss about?
Fresh UI version 7.18
Well yes it is a bit better "organized" (but you still have to KNOW what what you NEED to do - which most of us don't or can't remember so you still end up opening all those folders just like in X-teq). I also agree with Justin about the 11days and register for "free" activation - I mean, Why risk it? The "Unofficial MS TweakUI" does just about the same as FreshUI - or you can use X-teq (although it is overweight near 2mb). Also as for the "Special TOOLS" pulldown menu - most are available in the basic WIN98 folders (if you know where). I guess compact size is really all this FreshUI can offer - besides re-inventing the wheel. Cheers

Handy for choreography!
Pivot Stickfigure Animator version 2.2
Don't laugh - it is a time consuming but handy use! I got it to record my Taekwondo "kata's" - basically sequenced hand/foot fighting moves. But then my daughter played around with it for fun and added some of her hip-hop class moves. Really its a simple but effective program for this - and very compact/easy to learn. Cheers!

Valentine s KISS
Just Right Click Greeting Card
Great little program! Gosh I was getting fedup with the MSWord - have you EVER tried to do BOTH sides of a card in that program - and have the inside greeting text in the right spot? It is simply IMPOSSIBLE! Not to mention nursing along my tired old inkjet. Well Just Right Click was a dream compared to that - all it does is cards. The install is well behaved and all you do is pick an image (it thoughtfully previews it for you) add your backside tagline and inside greetings, mess around with the font size, type, colour and arty effects (if you want) and print - page one and then page two (they even remind you how to place the paper so the greetings go in the right spot). Couldn t be easyier if you just want a card with your family photo or a Yahoo Map for directions to your next party. 5 stars = *****. Cheers.

Prefer MRU Blaser - its free
Tracks Eraser Pro
This is a VERY tight program except MRU Blaster does much the same (including index.dat deletion and secure wipe) but is FREE. Sorry. This would be my NEXT choice as it does have a very well thought out UI, options and scheduler. Cheers

Freeware limited to 5 entries
Airy Secrets
No problem with this utility, but I ding for the same reason as other, well ranked Password Manager lite. It is Crippled. Pass.

Combines alot of useful toolbar utilities
WinBar
Ok, this is one you have got to adopt right away! It is sort of like comparing Xteq Setup to the old Win UI Tweak. Drop all those useful but single single purpose toolbar utilities - TClockEx, System Time Syncro, toolbar Volume & Winamp controls, Memory Usage indicator ... the list goes on. At 256k you won't regret it. Just get it, Ok? Cheers

Just Buttons!
DeKnop
This is one of those "specialized" tools for when (not IF) you need a quick button solution for a webpage - and they look great! Small footprint too.

a cheap and effective email archive solution!
DBXtract for Outlook Express
I tried many other free (and shareware programs, including OE Express Archiver http://www.mywebattack.com/a/get/2-expressarchiver.php for $25) but I believe DBXtract provides a cheap and simple solution for archiving OE5 (for earlier versions of OE4 use sister program MBXtract at same link) emails. One you point this program at the folder you want to archive, DBXtract drops all the *.eml files (with intact attachements) into the traget folder you specify. You can then delete the oringinals and zip the *.eml files. The price is right and What could be easier? Cheers

Searchable/Portable Bookmark DB
Powermarks
Agree with rix, I looked quite hard to find a user friendly but powerful bookmark DB - and this was my top pick. It works with MSIE, Netscape and Opera browsers. My problems with so many of these browsers were 1) finding a bookmark among my large collection (1600 entries) was neigh impossible without a search capability - Powermarks has this. 2) Often I needed to additional fields to record thoughts on URLand recall unique passwords and/or loginIDs for different sites - Powrmarks allows this. 3) Portability - after experience of moving from Netscape to MSIE I wanted a seperate DB and simple backup - Powermarks registratio includes web synchronization and storage so that you if you lose the DB (i.e OS reinstall) you still have a backup! This can also be ported to other PC's. Good value worth every penny!

Excellent for new Genealogist
GenoPro
Soon after I began conducting my family research "project" the need for some kind of program to assemble/maintain/make sense of all the scraps (scans of oringinal documents, photos, recordings etc) accumulated was PRESSING! If you are just starting this your search for such software will likely lead you to a LDS related sites (Ancestry.com and Rootsweb.com). For some reason they only push these share/freeware programs - Family Tree Maker (FTM) or Personal Ancestral File (PAF). After trying each and some others found at ZD.net I strongly recommend GenoPro v1.71. It has a small footprint, extensive data fields (such as DOB, death, locale, relationships, image file referances etc), automatically displays your newly entered family records as graphic "family-tree's", can import/export in the Geneololgy industry standard GEDCOM format (very important!) and can easily export results to various HTML report formats so you can post results on the web. Great support also.
