Slow and resource-hungry application
Google Desktop version 4 Beta
Google Desktop took more than 30 minutes to index my 80Gb hard drive, even longer when I set it in background indexing mode. It also slows your computer's processing speed when new files need to be indexed as well. Finally, when I uninstalled it, it corrupted my Office 2003 installation and accidentally deleted some of my documents when I choose to delete the saved index cache. My advice, backup first before uninstalling.

Great sound without expensive plug-ins
iTunes version 6.04
A lot better than Windows Media Player and WinAmp because iTunes' sound quality is superb; no need for expensive plug-ins, exclusive sound cards or subwoofers. Media management has an intuitive design and is easy to use; also the visualization has a cool hypnotic effect, though not as varied as WinAmp's. Extra features include an online music store and podcast viewing. Great for listening to your MP3's while at work.

A lot easier than Macromedia flash
SWiSH version 2.01
Swish's made the right approach to easy flash authoring. Unlike the steep learning curve and complexity of Macromedia Flash, Swish is relatively straightforward in its design. Simply select an effect from the menu, then tinker with the drawing tools, then adjust the timeline, and viola! A complete flash movie done in half the time.

Sophisticated but not for the faint-hearted
Macromedia Flash version MX
No doubt when you require flash content for your websites or presentations, Macromedia Flash is the way to go. Feature-packed with advanced animation effects and a complex scripting syntax will give the developer powerful tools in programming flash-based games, interfaces, presentations, and web sites. However, this program's high learning-curve requires classroom-based teaching and lectures; i.m.h.o. simply reading from instruction books is not enough.
