Versatile - indispensable
MediaMonkey version 3.0.2.1334
I have been using this program for a couple of years and am still learning new tricks with it. It is great for creating and managing playlists. The feature that removes duplicate entries is very welcome! I also like the tagging options, including the way it handles Album Art. The help file is clear and easy to understand. My only wish is that more plugins were available: for instance crossfading and sound enhancer, both of which I would definitely use. Thanks to the developers for a splendid piece of software: it is clear from the way they designed the Monkey that they love music as much as software.

Very good, but ...
a-squared Free version 3.1.0.20
I had been using Asquared for about three years with great satisfaction. But the latest version freezes my machine while the scan process is underway. Will await a newer version to see if the problem has been resolved. Thanks to Emsisoft for a great program that has helped me out of malware problems in the past.

More work needed
EMCO Malware Destroyer version 4.0
Thanks to EMCO for adding their product to the arsenal against malware. I found it scans the registry quickly, less so the file system. The interface seems clunky and confusing, with windows opening on windows. More work here would give the product a more professional appearance. There are some cryptic options, for example under 'Tools', there is a menu option: 'Total Removal Info in Database'. Presumably that refers to the definition database? Not sure why one would wish to "totally remove" that info, unless it was, say, corrupted? This is not an option I have seen on any similar program, and not sure what its purpose would be. The scanning progress notifier needs more work to show just what it is scanning at any given time. Needs a notifier to indicate when it has finished scanning also.

I like it!
Spyware Terminator version 2.1.1.314
Very professional-looking program that runs smoothly and reliably. It detected the remnants of a Trojan and prompted a restart. As soon as the computer had restarted, Spyware Terminator resumed from where it had left off and removed the last traces of the Trojan. Have had no problems whatsoever with Spyware Terminator.

Friendly but somewhat crippled
Clickster version 1.61
A very friendly program. The author has recorded a short vocal welcome, which you can hear on the inbuilt player. He has also included some bio info and a pic of his local area. Nice touch! Clickster is efficient at searching for MP3s, though it takes awhile for results to start showing. It has a useful feature which lets you browse the directory on which you found an mp3, to see what else you might like to save. Found the interface confusing when a download is running and another search initiated. The progress of the downloading file cannot be checked because the part of the screen showing its progress is covered over by the search results of the second search. The program pops up frequent "server congested" messages, requiring a wait of a couple minutes before being able to resume. Updating to Pro apparently stops these, leading me to see them as another annoying nag. In addition there is a daily download limit on the freeware version. Promising project to watch.
