Changed firefox speed, contrary-style
FireTune version 1.0.2
I use FireFox and I've got a reasonably hot Internet connection, so this item looked like just the ticket for a "voracious" browser. I followed all instructions to the letter. And my speed did change: with these tweak settings FireFox slowed-down! Surely I must be doing something wrong, so I uninstalled EVERYTHING. Started from scratch, followed the instructions to the letter and the results were the same. A third and fourth try yielded consistently slower load times (per the prescribed test) than stock FireFox settings. My advice: AVOID.

Feature-packed but could be easier
602LAN SUITE version 2004.0.05.0223
This package contains an extraordinary complement of network server components: a proxy server with caching, line-sharing proxy, DHCP server, SMTP/POP3 mail server with Web interface capabilities, and more. Free for 5 users or less, I have yet to discern the impact "no support for hyperthreading" has. Could be easier to administer, but for free there are few packages as complete as this one. Requires registration to remove nag pop-ups.

Wow! looks like just what i need!
Nico`s Photocopier version 2.31
I've got all these tax documents to copy. And Nico's Photocopier even worked ... 1 time. Yep! I got A whole copy out of it before it refused to work and complained of Twain problems. Now why would it do that? I didn't change anything, run twain (or photo) software, didn't reboot, heck, I just went to the kitchen to get a glass of water, I come back, and this is what I get. Maybe Nico's Photocopier is jealous of the drink? Well, this little application is just going to have to grow up before I can recommend it to anyone.

Mbm is not the best thing since sliced bread
Motherboard Monitor version 5.3.7.0
But it is gosh darn good. First learned of the necessity to use such a program when a mysterious computer problem was traced to bad power supply and a hot -12v level. HD's would mysteriously power-down, strange system hangs, all sorts of things. Now I monitor temp & voltage health all the time. If you're an overclocker then you already know about temperature monitoring and how important it is. It doesn't take long to cook an expensive CPU. Get MBM today.

Don't bother
LanDiscovery version 1.0
Does not do what it says. I was looking for a quick & dirty port scanner for LAN discovery, and this one aint it. Have a LAN with 7 network attached devices and it found zero.

Tried a few, settled on this one
Starter version 5.6.1.38
What hasn't already been said? This is a great startup manager. I particularly like the ability to disable the startup of system (critical?) functions, like the shell for example. Dangerous, but good for drivers that "prefer a stick shift over an automatic." More power, more control, more happy.

Not bad, but misses the mark
Lupas Rename version 4.2
I need a renamer that is flexible enough to handle any renaming job I throw at it and easy enough to not require a tutorial (who has time?). The very first renaming task I required Lupas Rename for it failed at, truncating trailing characters based on position from the left. It almost seems to have this capability but it doesn't seem to work properly.

The graphics make all the difference
OverDisk version beta preview
This is the first graphical HD usage application I've ever used that actually made a difference. And it is that weird little pie-chart that makes that difference. It is so instinctively intuitive to use that I actually did! Even the other high-dollar applications all gussied up with their make-up of pretty graphics and multisyllabic words can't compare to the effectiveness of this application.

Still looking some more
ZipGenius version 5.5.1.468
Tried ZipGenius after FilZip to try and unzip multiple archives. Despite promise and a seeming multitude of features, this bloatware also fails to do this. Looks like I'll be using ExtractNow.

Still looking
FilZip version 3.01
Usually I use WinRAR. It's got a lot of features, but is lacking in a couple of key areas related to extraction. I tried FilZip because I'd like to extract massive amounts of archives and have the files within placed into the same source directory without any sub-dir. This program can do that, but you have to add all archives manually going into each sub-directory. Now that might work for a dozen or so archives spread across a half-dozen of so sub-directories, but when you have thousands of archives spread across hundreds of sub-directories, it takes too long. You can't seem to drag and drop anything for extraction, only for compression. So for me, this dog don't hunt.

Don't pay for photo editing/paint software!
PhotoFiltre version 6.0.2
There is no reason to pay any $$$ to those well-known paint and photo-editing software developers when there's a gem like PhotoFiltre available for download for free. This software is amazing and BETTER than most of the commercial payware paint/photo editing packages. Instructions: DOWNLOAD, USE, SMILE.

Its all in the title
Simple File Joiner version 1.6
This program does just what it says, simply & easily. Works great for those binaries chopped up with a .001 .002 .003 series of extensions. This utility is now a "must have" in my arsenal.

Sounded good but wasn't
Offline CD Browser version 3.1.15
By the title this little application screamed to me it could do what I needed. It could not. The interface was so clunky and the ability to have multiple CDs or DVDs in a database so poor that I abandoned it.
