Won't work without connecting to the internet

WHY should it need to access the internet more than once? I am not trying to uncompress files on the net, I do not need to access it while unzipping the files on my desktop. Program was completely unusable without accessing net, so I uninstalled it almost immediately.

The price was right, free is good, and it installed very easily, and it did block the one site I tested, but it also blocked my small home town newspaper! Was it for the word "handgun" or for the word "manhunt"? If I want "filtering" like that, I can just pull the plug on the net.
