Underwhelmed
Thunderbird version 1.0
I've used Thunderbird on my office machine for a couple of months, and quite frankly I'm underwhelmed by it. As others have commented, it's bloated, has no 'killer' features, and is slow at retrieving mail from POP boxes. It just isn't in the same class as, for example, Pocomail, which I use on my home computer. I'm afraid Thunderbird just doesn't cut the mustard for me.

This little program is a godsend
Clipboard Recorder version 2.1.0
This utility has significantly increased my productivity. I write and run a busy website and I'm constantly opening up dictionaries, encyclopedias, web search results and online information resources. The ability to instantly click and save all the bits and pieces I need, then review and select them at leisure, makes my job so much easier. The 'save to disk when closing program' feature is especially useful if you want to keep stuff for a few days. This program is so useful you ask yourself "Why on earth didn't Microsoft provide this facility with Windows!"

Indispensable!
Icon Restore version 1.0
The other day, Windows XP reset my desktop icons - all 68 of them - and I wasted a lot of valuable time repositioning them. I needed a simple, unobtrusive utility that would enable me to save the current desktop layout, and restore it with ease - and this is exactly what Icon Restore does. Heartily recommended to anyone with more than a dozen icons on their desktop.

Postcast server hits the spot precisely
PostCast Server version 2.6
Functionality, reliability, ease of installation - these are the words that spring to mind. This is a serious and well-designed piece of software that does precisely what it sets out to do, and does it well. What I find particularly useful is that the log confirms the receipt of your messages by the recipient's email server. I heartily recommend PostCast to anyone who needs an SMTP server.

Xibit fills the bill
Xibit version 2.0 Beta 1
There is great sophistication and complexity lurking in this seemingly simple program - just look at the CSS style sheets to see what I mean. The speed with which an album can be created from scratch is amazing, and the viewer customization options are quite unique. This is a powerful and highly functional utility that should be tried by anyone who wants to set up a picture album on their web site.

ChoiceMail
This is an excellent program. The only difficulty you might have in setting it up is getting the proxy settings right in your email program, the instructions to do this are not as clear as they might be for the average email user. But once it s working, it does the job and does it well. The program is well supported and frequently updated. It works well on the default settings, but those adventurous souls who like to tweak and personalise their software will find plenty of options to go at.

Startup Organizer
This is a pleasingly easy program to set up, configure and use. Until I started using it, I hadn't realised how many applications automatically hook themselves to the start up list; now I can control everything with one mouseclick. All in all, a nice little utility.

PopUpCop
My initial experience with PopUpCop is very positive. It works unobtrusively and efficiently. The PopUpCop website is well worth a visit, as it explains very clearly and simply the whole range of tricks and traps that antisocial webmakers foist on all of us, and how they can be thwarted.

Icon Sucker Standard
Within ten minutes of using this program I was on-line to buy the Pro version ($10). It found 29,573 icons on my system (!) and let me browse through all of them. I'll never lose another icon!

TreeSize Professional
Invaluable. Has saved me many hours of trying to find out where massive (and redundant) temporary files, old logs, installation leftovers, crash dumps etc. are lurking on my disk, and to spot the disk-hogging programs on my system.

Nelson Email Organizer (NEO)
After using Nelson for a few days I just couldn't go back to the Outlook inbox screen! It's an intuitive and easy-to-use program that seems to fit itself to the way you work, rather than the other way round. It reduces a massive and incoherent message-base to useful and instantly accessible information.

RoboForm
This program takes a lot of the hassle out of surfing and e-shopping. As more sites demand password logons, and banks increase their secure logon requirements, AI RoboForm handles it all with consumate ease and unerring accuracy. A truly indispensabe utility.

Thumbs Plus
An amazing program. Indispensable for weeding massive collections of images, and especially for finding duplicates. The 'find similar images' function is uncannily accurate. Wholeheartedly recommended for anyone with a digital camera.

CaptureEze Pro
I use this program for grabbing screen-shots for training materials. I've tried others, but CaptureEze is the best I've come across.

I'm working in Indonesia, and use this program to access my home machine in the UK. Even on slow modem lines, Remote Anything works superbly.
