Snappy Fax 2000
  • Free Trial ($19.99)
  • Win2000/XP/Vista

qleft  Interface and fax quality out of whack  qright

Snappy Fax 2000 version 3.75.1.2
  • Interface: 1
  • Features: 2
  • Ease of use: 2
  • Value: 1
  • Overall: 1

The Snappy Fax interface makes it hard to use because it has like about 20 columns with their descriptions all crunched together so you can't read what they say. When you adjust the column widths to your liking so you can read them, and then restart the application again, the columns don't stay the way you had them but get all crunched together again. And it's very limited on how you can filter the columns you want to appear. Also, I imported several document pages from Word to Snappy Fax but when previewed before actually faxing them, they were very hard to read. The characters looked all askew and out of whack, like it was from a ancient thermal paper fax machine. God forbid you should fax a resume to someone with this, it would end up going straight into the garbage can.

MightyFax
  • Free Trial ($19.95)
  • Win98/ME/2000/XP/2003

qleft  Too convoluted  qright

MightyFax version 3.38
  • Interface: 2
  • Features: 1
  • Ease of use: 1
  • Value: 1
  • Overall: 1

I don't like MightyFax. It works, but it is difficult to use and to edit and manipulate faxes. Say you want to add a document from Microsoft Word as a fax page, you have to go into Word first, open the document, then print it to the Mighty Fax printer driver. Then it goes to MightyFax. If you want to add a separate document as page 2, you have to do the whole thing again, then go into MightFax and add that page from one fax to the other. I don't need this aggravation.

SpywareBlaster
  • Freeware
  • WinWin (All)

qleft  Stopped those annoying active x controls  qright

SpywareBlaster version 3.2
  • Interface: 5
  • Features: 5
  • Ease of use: 5
  • Value: 5
  • Overall: 5

The only Anti-Spyware/Adware software I've used that stopped all those annoying and repeating ActiveX controls that you get when visiting some websites from even appearing in the first place. I also like the restrictive sites feature. Finally, a good defensive weapon to use against those unscrupulous operators that try to plant their spyware and adware crap on our computers. It's great!

CleanCache
  • Freeware
  • Win2000/XP

qleft  The best cleaner i've used  qright

CleanCache version 2.17
  • Interface: 5
  • Features: 5
  • Ease of use: 5
  • Value: 5
  • Overall: 5

I've tried so many cleaners that I was not satisfied with: iISystem Wiper, Empty Temp Folders, Disk Cleaner, and CCleaner but none of them compare to CleanCache. It gets rid of all your computer usage tracks completely, not just internet related, but general computer usage tracks as well. It even has the added feature of secure cleaning that overwrites the data it cleans out. You can even configure it to add additional files and folders that you want to clean out. You can't get a better cleaner software than CleanCache. Hard to believe that it's freeware. It's great!

GetMail for Hotmail

qleft  Two better alternatives  qright

GetMail for Hotmail version 2.6
  • Interface: 2
  • Features: 2
  • Ease of use: 2
  • Value: 2

Two better alternatives to this software are: YahooPOPS! for Yahoo mail and HotmailPopper for Hotmail. They enable you to download and send emails through Outlook for free.
