Very useful
InFormEnter version 0.5.5.2
This is an extremely useful piece of software, I have used it for some time now and for form filling in very handy. It can distort the web page but it can easily be toggled on and off. It is currently not available in FireFox 3, hope the author updates it as I for one will miss it.

Easy to use
UnderCoverXP version 1.19
For printing any type of either CD or DVD cover this could not be easier. A very useful program.

Nice product
Poster Forge (Free Version) version 1.01.02
This is a very good product for creating fun posters of friends and family from photographs. The interface is easy and using the product is simple. There is only one small comment, some of the descriptions for suggestions on the wanted posters are a bit dubious, problem is with the internet once something is out there it is fired off across the world instantly. Other than the descriptions this is a fun product and no doubt people can have a lot of fun with it. Just make up your own captions which the program allows you to do anyway.

Good product
CD Recovery Toolbox Free version 1.0
Simple and easy to use which means the developer put in a lot of effort. I had reason to use this as I had a DVD which would not load. DVD Shrink would not rip it. So I tried CD Recovery Toolbox. Depending on how bad and many problems the DVD has depends on how long the recovery will take. For a difficult DVD it could be a long time. The upside is most of the content can be recovered ok you lose structure of the DVD but the Vobs can be read manually which is better than nothing. Useful and well designed bit of software.

Looked good
Glary Utilities Free version 2.2.2.66
One of the extra utilities added on I tried which did not work. The File Splitter worked fine on files smaller than 1gb but I wanted to chop a file that was 4.5gb into 1gb pieces. The chopping process was very quick and the reason was it although it created 5 files the first 4 were only 100mb in size. It is a well thought out product just needs this bit sorting out.

Remote assistance made easy
CrossLoop
I currently use the free version of LogMeIn to help others out with their computer problems so I thought I would give this a go as it appeared on SnapFiles. It is easy to set up and it works very well. The documentation is good. Not much else to add but thanks to the developer(s) for the effort they have put in to make the a useful product.

Looks good
Comodo Verification Engine version 2.2.05
I installed this and it looked very good, there is a limitation of 30 days use and then you need to register your details, registration is free. I decided to register on the first day to get the required key, as I thought why wait, I want to continue to use this product. I was sent by email a zero valued invoice and informed the key would follow soon. I am still waiting for the key to be sent. Not sure if it is wise to continue to fill in my passwords etc if the product stops after 30 days. Pity it has been 6 days now.

Good stuff
ScrapbookFlair version beta
This is fun software. It is easy to take any family/friend photo (jpeg) and add bubble captions to make it into a fun photo for leg pulling fun. You are only limited by your own imagination. For free software this is a fantastic package and you can have a lot of fun with it. It is easy to install and use, I found it easier to export the finished photo to a jpg and used PaintShopPro resize it and print it but Scrapbook does print. Download it, have fun with it and a big thank you to Aurora Digital Imaging for making it available.

Good fun
WPanorama version 6.4.1
Like Google Earth this is a fun product. The views that you can download from the web site are stunning and if you search around there are some more free ones out there on other web sites. Give it a go nothing to lose.

Good stuff
Google Earth version 3.0.0395 beta
Just downloaded it and it really is a good piece of software, I found my house and I live in Swansea, Wales, UK. The way it scans around to locate the place name input is very clever. As one of the other reviewers commented, just down load it and play with it.

Firefox + thunderbird back
Mozilla Backup version 1.2.2
If you use either the Mozilla Suite or Firefox and Thunderbird then using this program to back up profiles and emails is a must. It is dead easy to use and you can decide what and where you want the backed up files to go. I have never had a problem with this program or any of the previous releases, the interface is easy to understand for even the novice user.

Thunderbird + backup
Thunderbird version 1.0
For emails it is easy to migrate from Outlook including importing your address book. You can also import any emails that you have in Outlook. Set Thunderbird as your default mail application and forget about Outlook. Set up for Hotmail accounts using Hotmail Popper works, I use the Freeware version which continues to work. Backing up, use Mozilla BackUp, this is Freeware and is listed on SnapFiles. I use it to back up both FireFox and Thunderbird settings. Mozilla Backup will also save/restore all of you emails. Thunderbird is meant to compliment FireFox but can be used with other Web Browsers (DeepNet Explorer for one).

Good stuff
LastChance version 1.03
I was using ShutDownOnTime but noticed this Shut Down Utility. What I like is the ability to run some clean up programs as part of the shut down process. Yes I know some cleaners can be configured to run at start up and shut down but being able to configure others is an asset. It is a bit of a fiddle working out how to configure programs to execute at shut down but this is not a fault of this program and the ability to test what you have done is very helpful. For Freeware there are no complaints whatsoever. Thanks to the author for a smart bit of software.

Good stuff
ZipGenius version 5.5.1.468a
Like most started using early versions of WinZip, then to version 8 and then on to the Beta version (9) of WinZip which looked good. Then they pulled the plug on the free stuff so started using a free version of StuffIt. This was ok, the interface was a little confusing but worked with it and it was ok. however I had a problem with WinZip on a different computer where I wanted to send to my computer a file that exceeded 1.4mb, what I did not realize was that WinZip chopped the zip file so the file I downloaded and extracted was corrupted. Tried Zip Genius, this is freeware. The interface is easy to follow and is bundled with other software, Cutter which will chop up large files into smaller ones. It works well, in-experienced users will easily grasp it as the interface has been well thought out. Basically it is simple to use I have not experienced any problems with it.

Good stuff
Nico`s Photocopier version 2.30
I have a scanner and a printer, normally to do a PhotoCopy involves using PaintShopPro to capture the document and then print it. This software does exactly what it claims. A simple window allows you to control what is to be copied and how many copies are required, it is that simple. It detects the scanner and printer as claimed with no problems. The developer has put what he calls a Nag Screen on exit which promotes other software he has developed which is fair enough for free use of software. To sum up it is simple to use and does exactly what it claims to do.

Start up programs
Start-Up Tool version 0.0.1.0
There are a number of programs that perform this function, CodeStuff Starter is one of them and offers more functionality. Also one that I use to control what get started is SpyBot. This program does what StartUp does plus a lot more, it will also protect your startup folder by making you aware of what programs are trying to embed themselves into your system and allow you to manage the situation. Look around on this site for other programs that perform this function. This is a simple program but there are more advanced Freeware programs out there.

Starter
Starter version 5.6.1.38
I have used a number of programs like this such as StartUp Cop but this is by far the best version I have seen and used. It does far more than just allow you to see what is in your StartUp Process, you can view the processes running and vary the priority or terminate a process (yes Windows Task Manager does the same), it also allows you to export and import various start up configurations depending on what you may want to do when you turn your computer on. A well laid and thought out program, simple to use.

It's ok
Windows CleanUp! version 3.1.2
Picked this one up a few years ago and it does what it claims and removes traces of your internet activity, like you never used the internet. However there are alternatives, one of these is IE Privacy Keeper which offers various configurations, wipe at start or wipe at shutdown. It will clean specified files or folders. Depends really on you want to do. Windows CleanUp is simple to use and will meet most people needs for something quick and effective.

good stuff
Ad-Aware Free version 1.05 SE Pers.
Like most reviewers I have used this product for a number of years after being directed to it from Gibson Research (grc.com) after using OptOut. Adaware will search out as the site puts it ScumWare and allow you to remove it from your computer. The definitions tables are frequently updated. I also use SpyBot which has more functionality than Adware. Using both gives a good level of protection from this "ScumWare" and if it is key loggers you are worried about try X-Cleaner Free and there is a virtual keyboard that you can use to input your passwords, that will fool the key loggers. Basically be smarter use this stuff and be safer.

Spybot 1.3 does work
Spybot - S&D version 1.3
I have used SpyBot for a long time, I also use AdawareSE, it is wise to run both periodically to search out any unwanted programs/spyware. There are a number of features within SpyBot that make it a mature product, one is Resident Tea Time under Tool/System Internals, this monitors what is being added to your Registry and StartUp Folder and gives the options to Allow/Allow and Remember or Deny. Take the time to see how SpyBot can be configured to match your needs, this is where you will find how well the product has been developed. I used version 1.2 and upgraded to 1.3 as soon as it was available and I have never encountered any problems with either version.

Good download manager
Fresh Download version 7.16
Used this download manager for a long time. The program appears to be under contanst review and upgrades all the time. As a download manager it has all the features you would expect and this includes a restart facility. There is no spyware and I have not had any problems using this software. There are also other products from this developer which are worth a look. You have to register the software to obtain a license key but that is a small price to pay for free use of software.

Phishing - great program
SpoofStick version 1.02
Noticed this was for IE Web Browser only but if you go to the web site there is a version for Firefox. However I use Mozilla. I did have a problem downloading it so I switched to IE and used that to Download it. It does work under Mozilla just follow the instructions on how to install on the web site. The toolbar is not obtrusive and is easily configured. This is a nice comfort factor when looking at a web page where the web address is not completely obvious due to its length. Once again this is another free piece of software that does an effective job and I can only thank the developer for this.

Cleanup for mozilla
CleanMOCache version 1.05
This product is a useful utility, it can be easily configured and I have not experienced any problems with it. There are a number of options available and the interface is easy to understand and will not present any user with a problem. Once again as a freebie one can only thank the developed for their time and effort.

Manage when progams start on boot up
Startup Delayer version 2.1.10
Works fine, need to examine carefully which programs can be delayed, obviously firewalls and anti virus programs windows must control the start up of these programs. Also some programs update the Start Up procedures when you do apply updates/upgrades, if these programs are managed by Startup Delay then you may see double entries in the Startup Delay windows. If this happens just delete one of the duplicated entries. If you want to pass a program back into Windows control make sure you read the help screen, because if you delete any then you lose them and only re-installing the software can put the entries back. As a previous reviewer noted is does lack an UnCheck facility but that is all. Basically choose carefully what to allow Startup Delay to manage and it works fine, it's free, no spyware, so no complaints, it works well.

Erasing details
Eraser version 5.7
If you are paranoid about leaving information on your computer or in my case moving a hard disc to a spare computer to sell on, this cleanup program is excellent, it will destroy any stored data on the device, that is unless the person I sold it to works for a Computer Forensic Agency. For the rest of us, this program will make the data unrecoverable and as it is free I cannot fault it.

Lost password
Asterisk Key version 6.1
Moved a friend over from IE and Outlook Express to Mozilla, only one problem as this was a non IT person, they did not know their Outlook Express password as someone else had set it up for them before. This program does exactly what it claims and reveals the password, for me good but not good generally for security. Still ignoring the ethics here it is a simple program to use and under these conditions a real benefit.
