Improved but problematical...
Internet Explorer version 7.0
It's an improvement over it's predecessor but , having installed it , I had problems with most of my third party software which have automatic updating facilities. They no longer update , usually claiming that there is no internet connection when there definitely is. These include Superantispyware , AISBackup , Registry Tweaker , CloneCD. Since these are more important to me than a relatively poor browser , I uninstalled IE7and everything is fine again. IE7 is still not as good in either facilities or performance as most of the popular "competition".

Does what it says...easily
ProxySwitcher Lite version 2.3
Small program , very easy to use , uses hardly any resources and simply does what it says. Useful if placed as a button on your browser rather than keeping loaded.

Brilliant browser
Maxthon version 0.9.27
Recently evaluated the main competition...Avant and SlimBrowser anyway. This one seems much better featured (particularly proxy , sidebar and utility addition features). Performs well and not yet had any problems. The major problem is the total lack of any sort of user manual and whilst most of the parameters are obvious , some are not.

Shame about the size restriction
Cryptainer PE version 4.1.3
Excellent product , but the LE version has the restriction of 20mb per volume although any number of 20Mb volumes can be created. If you want a bigger size than this have a look at TrueCrypt (not yet on WebAttack) which is at least as good and has no restrictions.

Excellent free antivirus
avast! Home Edition version 4.1.412
Having used AVG for several years I had not intended changing from it until the update system started to fail and they were not interested in resolving it. I changed to Avast and only regret wasting those years with AVG. Updates/VDB's are produced very frequently are seamlessly downloaded when the system detects them. There's also a useful news/alert box to keep the user informed of potential dangers. Has a virus recovery database so you can restore files if you get a virus. Also useful is the free cleaning tool (aswlclnr) which can be downloaded from the web site.

Good solid performer
MyPopupKiller version 1.23
Very small download , installation defaults are OK , but plenty of options for later. Very effective and configurable. I've tried most of the 5* rated competition , but prefer this one. Hardly any resources used when running. It could benefit from a few additions such as an auto update feature and popup log, but hopefully they will come soon. I find it useful to use CustomiseIE from the same author so I can control it from the IE Toolbar easily.
