Great, simple security
McAfee SiteAdvisor version 1.7.0.53
This is a great way of identifying web sites which could cause a security risk. It's simple to use and is ideal for keeping novice (and expert) users out of trouble. A few more options such as the ability to switch off the information bubbles would be useful but this is a fantastic piece of kit none the less.

Have used for years. still as useful as ever.
FreeRAM XP version 1.52
I have installed this and some previous versions on a number of PCs from those with extremely limited memory and processors to high spec PCs. I have never had any problems with this app and have found that in every case the performance is improved (especially for those with low memory). It's very easy to use and it does a great job of tidying up redundant memory being held by other apps. Fantastic app with some really nice features.

Perfect.
SQLTools version 1.41 build 66
I used Query Commander (which is excellent) when I was working with SQL Server, but couldn't get it to work well with Oracle. I then found SQLTools and it works perfectly. It's got all the features I was looking for and is extremely easy to use. It has some very nice and well thought out options and can be configured just as you need. A truly great freeware app.

Fantastic!
SpyDefense version 0.9.8.122 Beta
I got tired of Microsofts ever changing antispyware apps demanding authentication and after looking around for spyware with scheduled updates and scans I found this. Has a straightforward interface with everything you need and scans really quickly. It found a couple of spyware apps missed by Ad-Aware and Spybot. No 'false positives' despite my PC being choc full of every app under the sun.

Not bad, great if you're willing to pay.
SUPERAntiSpyware (Free Edition) version 3.1.1010
I installed this and was rather disappointed. It's a great anti-spyware app but as pretty much all the scheduling options are disabled on the free version, it makes it no better than a lot of other similar freeware available. A real shame as it looks like a great bit of kit if you're prepared to pay.

Better than norton
avast! Home Edition version 4.6.603
This is a fantastic product. It's so polished it's hard to believe it's free. I've used a number of AV packages including Norton and this is by far the best. The only thing it's missing is a scheduler. Regarding an earlier comment, the registration does run out after about a year, but all you need to do is re-register and you're up and running again.
