Simply gets the job done.
Bitmap to Icon Wizard version 1.3
I couldn't find the .ico export settings in Photoshop, Corel OR Paint Shop Pro. Instead of wasting more time, I resized my art to 256x256 pixels, saved it as a .bmp and and ran this little wizard on it. Done. It makes windows icons, and even 16x16 favicon.ico icons that you can put in your website root directory, so you can have an icon like the green Snapfiles "S" on your browser's address bar. I already have all the design tools I need. This simply creates the icon(s) I needed. What a relief! Thanks to the Author! I really didn't need more expensive bloatware cluttering up my computer. The only 'drawback' is that it is a no frills program, and might not be suitable for absolute beginners in need of a walkthrough.

CatFish version 1.9
I have been using Catfish for years and it works great, and appears better than the alternatives. I browsed for alternative programs because the directory export to text file is very basic. It won't create directory "booklets" for me on it's own, but it will do. Catfish will even catalogue entire hard drives so if there is a crash on a drive, you will know what was where. Anyway, Catfish is small, searches fast and is free, with no built in limitations. The Snapfiles review says there is no way of specifying the location for your catalogs. I solved this by simply copying the entire Catfish directory to a folder I always backup and I created my own shortcut to it. It runs as a standalone program, and does not require installation. You can even give someone a copy of the Catfish directory to be used as an index of your collection. The program is very basic, but it works well and fast.
