Best free shredder I've used.
File Shredder version 2.0
File shredder simply the best free eraser I've ever used. I did use another (popular)Eraser, shredder but found it had a bug that ended up reducing an 80GB HDD to 6GB in a few months! File Shredder on the other hand has never done this to my HDD and it's been nearly a year now. It's simple to install and use. I love it. This gets my thumbs up!

Hdd hog
Eraser version 5.86a
Although this file shredder works it also took a lot of my HDD up by creating temporary files of the unused disk space. Problem: Eraser is supposed to delete all temporary files it created when it is finished shredding your unused disk space. However after a couple of months my 80GB HDD was left with 6GB of free sapce, and yes I let it finish uninterupted...

Ok for single user accounts
ScripTrap version 1.03
If youre a single user then it's great. However when I tried Scrip Trap on XP home with multiple user accounts. It was ok on the administrator account, but would not enable for any of my other limited user accounts.

Prevention is better than cure
SpywareBlaster version 3.2
SpywareBlaster has a database which at the time of writing exceeds the 3000 mark. I recomend this highly for inoculating your PC, especialy if you use Internet Explorer. Don't forget to use Spybot S&D or Ad-Aware as nothing is 100% Infallible.

Top notch
Ad-Aware Free version 1.05 SE Pers.
I've used Ad-Aware for some time and I like it very much, it's easy to install and use. There are regular updates to keep up with the latest threats. My only gripe is that in the latest version 'SE build 1.05' they have disabled the auto run option. which means that you have to run the scan manualy instead of it starting up when you log on to your account in XP. Apart from that, it gets 9 out of 10 from me.

Superb firewall
ZoneAlarm version 5.1.011
I've used ZoneAlarm Free version for some years now and find that it has performed very well indeed. It not only meets my requirements, it exceeds them.
