Look no further for your browser!
Avant Browser version 11.5 build 21
I've been through them all. I won't even spend time listing them. I've ended up with Avant which is a great combination of the IE browser core and an excellent productive user interface. There are features here you just must have: Ad blocker, AutoFill (which really works!), and URL Aliases (speeds up your browsing considerably). Of course there's tabs which works much better than in IE7 and you can configure the UI to fit your browser needs perfectly. The browser is my most used program so it's essential that it works and does it's job. Avant does. There's no doubt in my mind this is the best there is right now. Yes, there are others with more fancy looks and even more features, but every line of code added to the browser usually results in pages loading slower. Not with Avant! Finally, the on-line bookmark feature in Avant is great. I can now easily reproduce my favorite browser with all it's bookmarks and settings across computers. Get Avant!

This one ends up on all my computers.
WinRAR version 3.71
I've been using WinRAR for years. Yes, I know there's a lot of free newer alternatives out there. I have been trying a few of them and they work fine. However, WinRAR is a rock solid time tested archiver. It never fails, it never complains and it never stops doing it's job. Of course it supports all the compression standards and has a lot of features you need, and some you'll find you need after having used the program for a while. All in all, this is just a must have that follows all my computers. The price is reasonable for a commercial grade archiver like this. Just get it, you'll never look back!

An editor for everything text based!
PSPad Editor version 4.5.3 (2298)
I was looking for a notepad replacement for the longest time. What I really needed was spell checking. PSPad came up as a free alternative with this feature included. I was a bit put off by the sheer complexity of the program, but it has been growing on me, and now I can't do without it. I use for everything text based now and it works flawlessly. Yes, there are tons of features I never use, but I do not feel the complexity causes bloat and slow response. The editor opens fast and runs like a dream. I have found myself using more and more of the built in features, learning as I go. But even used as a plain text editor this gem shines like no other. If you are looking for a good text editor, free or even commercial, look no further. This one is a winner and well worth the download. And don't forget to donate. This one really deserves your support!

It did find malware!
EMCO Malware Destroyer version 4.0
This program is a bit cluncky and the updates takes "forever". But when it's ready to go it scans faster than anything I've used. I have top notch commercial protection on my computer, but this program found two pieces of malware that my other protection had let through. It's free, so I do not feel any reason to complain. I'll stick it in my toolbox and use it from time to time. As a second (or third) line of defense it's excellent, and absolutely much better than nothing!
