Good alternative to explorer
CubicExplorer version 0.75
Cubic Explorer is a good alternative to Windows Explorer. Actually, it's superior to Explorer in a number of ways. First, you can actually navigate your disks via tabs. Second, you can create permanent bookmarks to your favorite folders on your drives, something that really speeds up file navigation big-time. On top of all of that, Cubic Explorer contain all of Explorer's most important functions and feature -- all in a very good-looking interface. The only problem that I had with Cubic Explorer involves navigating on a LAN. Cubic Explorer would occasionally come to a grinding halt and freeze when trying to navigate LAN directories. Still, if you don't need to navigate a LAN, Cubic Explorer is a faster, more efficient, and less resource-hungry way to navigate your local disks than is Explorer. It's well worth a try!

Great "hosts" file utility!
HostsMan version 2.0.1
Spyware and other malware often change the settings one's hosts file in order to redirect your Internet destination. For instance, you want to go to www.blahblahblahblah.com -- but you end up going to www.sexyhotbabesinthongs.com. Well, HostMan -- which is very easy to use -- comes to the rescue! With HostsMan, you can "lock" your hosts file to prevent such changes from taking place. Even better, you can lock or unlock individual Internet addresses via HostsMan. So, if you want to go to a specific site that HostsMan is blocking, you can override that setting manually. Note that HostMan even provides free host file updates that can be added to your host file at the click of a button. This reduces the chances of your having to experience sleazoid web sites via spyware or trojan redirection. In short, if you hate spyware and want to control your Internet surfing tightly, then use HostsMan!

A good, fast, and reliable web search tool
Telescope version 6.10
Telescope is an impressive search tool. Although its interface is minimalistic and the program lacks certain bells and whistles found in other search tools, Telescope makes it up in speed and exhaustive search results. The interface has been updated somewhat, giving the tool a more polished look. It looked crude in its earlier incarnations. Now though, Telescope is starting to take on a more professional appearance. More good news is that Telescope is just a fast as ever when searching the web: Its search speed puts Copernic and even WebFerret to shame. And, on top of that, Telescope finds relevant entries that neither of those other two search tools even hint at. So, if you're someone who searches the web often, you owe it to yourself to try Telescope. It may be plain-looking and a bit basic -- but it's a winner!

A very good and effective antivirus product
Avira AntiVir Personal version 6.28.00.07
AntiVir is definitely one of the best freeware bargains on the Internet. Although free for personal use, don't let the fact that it's free make you think that it isn't powerful and effective. I've been using Antiv for about two years now. It's caught every virus, trojan, worm, etc. that's been thrown at it. As a result, my Windows XP computer hasn't been infected since I started using AntiVir. Note that the virus definition files for AntiVir are updated almost every day. To keep AntiVir at its most effective, you should use AntiVir's built-in update feature at least once every 30 days or so. If you need a good antivirus program that'll keep your system free of today's most potent viruses, trojans, worms, and other such malware, give AntiVir a try. You won't be disappointed.
