Good for data cds, bad for music cds
DeepBurner version 1.1.5.149
This is a great program for creating data CDs. The majority of features one would use are there, although disc-to-disc copying is only available in the paid version. However, when it comes to music CDs, I've had nothing but problems. They seem to work fine when played on the computer, but when moving to a CD player I get "corrupt disc" messages. This happens both on my home and car stereos, and both are relatively new models. I've tried virtually every permutation of the settings to correct this, but have so far been unsuccessful. If the music CD issue ever gets resolved, I would actually consider paying for the Pro version. However, as long as I need a second burning utility to create music CDs, I'm sticking with the Free version.

It just works...
AnalogX MaxMem version 1.01
MaxMem is nice in that it only automatically cleans when either you're almost out of memory, or the computer is sitting idle. It also seems less aggressive than some of the other memory cleaners/defraggers, so there doesn't seem to be as much "recovery time" after a clean is performed.

Good self-extracting encryption program
Crypto-Lock version 2.02
Although this program's functionality is available in most modern zip/unzip programs, it does work quite well. The self-extracting functionality is good for when you have to send an encrypted file to someone, but don't want to make them download the same decoder.

After three years, it's still my favorite
Crimson Editor version 3.60
As the title says, I've been using Crimson for three years now, and don't have a bad thing to say about it. It's a relatively small download, and has every feature you'll ever need in a text editor. Because the syntax files are easily edited, you can have highlighting set up for a particular language exactly how you'd like it. Some of the advanced functions take some time to learn, so someone moving straight from Notepad to Crimson may be overwhelmed by every little setting s/he can configure. Definitely worth a look-see if you're in the market for a new programmer's editor.

Locks up my system
CDBurnerXP version 2.2.9
Version 3.0.113 has some severe problems. First, when I started to make an audio CD, I wanted to open a previous DeepBurner file in Notepad to re-do the track order, but no applications would start while CDBXPP was running. Also, it resets the Taskbar to be always visible instead of auto-hiding it. Finally, I can not get this program to shut-down "clean" without using the Windows Task Manager. Seems like it should be a good software, but needs some work. System: WinXP Pro SP1, 512 MB RAM (340 MB Free at the time), 80 GB HDD, 2.6 GHz Pentium 4.
