Very good in Vista
PC Tools Firewall Plus version 3.0
I've used version 2 of this app for about 6 months. It got better with time, but version 3 is a major improvement. Many bottlenecks have been removed and the interface is easy to use and understand. There are 2 modes, basic and advanced, so you can have your desired level of control. Like most good firewalls, it also blocks code injection and memory changes that are not approved. Altogether a very good firewall, not too complicated but with all the needed options, and it is comparable to commercial firewalls. Since it is free, it is a real gem. You shouldn't run 2 firewalls. Be sure to disable XP's or Vista's or you will have problems.

Very nice app
Visual CD version 2.0
I've used the Offline CD Browser for years to catalog CD's. It works well, but has nowhere near the useful features that Visual CD has. I found it stable and fairly easy to use. Some features could be a bit clearer, but the main task of cataloging was straightforward. I'd suggest that others who had problems may have had them for other reasons, such as theming incompatibilities or scratched CD's. I have not yet experienced any erroneous size determinations, but those would be unimportant to me, anyway. The thumbnail feature is a great idea and a time-saver when searching for those obscure images.

Easy to use.
SilentNight Micro CD Burner version 2.9.2 beta
This burner is very easy to use and since it doesn't require installation, it can even be run from an external USB thumb drive or a floppy. But the last 2 updates in version numbers have not changed the version that is actually downloaded---it is still the old version 2.0.1.11. I would really like to try the newer version. (Note: The old version is the one available on the site, too, even though it says it is the new one.)

High cpu, loses drives.
Hard Disk Indicator version 1.3
This could be a nice little app, but it uses far too much CPU for what it does. From time to time, it also seems to "lose" drives it is monitoring and needs to have its options set again. Needs work but a good start.

Great piece of software
FileMap by BB version 4.0.3
This is a simple program that can tell you what changes are being made to your system by installers or any other process. Find out exactly what those installers are putting in your machine and where. When it's time to uninstall, you can find ALL the parts, even the ones the installer doesn't take out.

No-frills --- does the job.
Telescope version 6.8
Fast and effective metasearch engine. It found many obscure things I had problems finding with Copernic Agent. Not fancy, but it is fast and does the job well. Searches can be coverted to html and saved, if desired.

Excellent archiver---all-in-one.
IZArc version 3.4.1.6
This is a very well written and convenient piece of software. It opens nearly any type of archive you are ever likely to come across and has customizable shell add-ons for the context menu. As good as, or better than, Power Archiver and free to boot. It opened a rar archive that WinRAR and PA said was corrupt and the file inside was in perfect condition. Get it while it's still free. I wish it had a right-click "Compress to Cab" option, but that can be done by opening up the program.
