Ver 10 is good...avoid ver 11
This version is ok,but whatever you do don't download the latest update...Ver 11. Its impossible to work out and doesn't seem to have an uninstall...one day, some day, Microsoft are going to understand the internet now needs simplicity of use. They need to fire a few geeks and designers, and get back to basics.

Wmp insufficient
By itself, I've found WMP to be somewhat, well, "lacking". It doesn't play every video type and gets real finicky about working at all if any extra "plugins" (DirectShow filters) are installed. About 20% of the time videos simply don't work at all and WMP sits there looking all pretty. WMP is "okay" for WMV files (I've never seen a WMV fail to play under WMP) but there are plenty of MPEGs and AVIs that won't play. And there are some funky new "open" formats like OGG and MP4 that are gaining popularity that WMP simply can't play.

I like the app, but...
I like the app quite a bit, it does it's thing well and stays out of my way. Most of the time. I like the UI in WMP10 ALOT more than WMP9's, and it burns so/so in my opinion. My only gripe has to do with list creation, if y'ain't careful, you could accidentally erase your new list in the middle of adding a song. Other than that, I like it.

Didn't work for me?
Upgraded to this from version 9 and all of a sudden no more streaming audio. Tried to troubleshoot but to no avail. Uninstalled and then got streaming back? Reinstalled, same situation as before. Uninstalled again and got streaming back again? New interface however also extra commercialization,i.e. msn tunes to buy. Note: out of all the players that I have tried (about 9 of them)this one (wmp version10)is the only one that has given me an issue???

Windows media player 10
Windows Player 9 worked well. Then I upgraded to Version 10. What a bad decision that was. It would not play the library songs, nor could I rip or burn cd,s. I had a computer tech try to solve the problem. He could not, so we loaded in a different media player. This player works great, so I wont be using Windows Player again. Note: I tried to go back to version 9 but I could not do it because I had a later version in the computer.

Good, but
Lengthy install. After install played files sound terrible so correctly suspected SRS enabled. Typical 'standard' Win features eg click on column to sort do not work in library. Library superceeds file operations, but you cannot drag a file from the library to the sync list, whereas you can delete the library entry (and file) which is annoying. Syncronise converts a file as desired to WMA (a good format) then, on the same file to same device later does not - inconsistent, but still useful. You can RIP CD to file, but it seems you cannot convert files to other formats eg MP3 to WMA unless you are syncing to an external device. For example, if you had MP3 at 256kbs and wanted to recode it to WMA file on disk this does not seem possible. Tries to access the internet even if 'Work Offline' is checked; it prompts for your file to be checked VERY BAD. Ejecting a CD, then placing a new one in the drive does not refresh properly with some music (eg Sony) disks.

It's slow
I'm one of those people who just want to listen to music while working, copy my cds onto disk and that's about it. So it's ideal for me. It's just so resource hungry and slow. It takes ages to load/unload into Windows if you have a few thousand music tracks on disk. I guess there's lots going on in the background as it scans the disk for changes. Oh and that goes for the rate of scanning through the library and Now Playing list when there's a lot listed.

No burnproof!!
Like coasters? Do use Media Player then! I've bought music on internet that can only be burnt with Media Player. well... you're heading for troubles. It leaves out tracks and closes off, and it just stops burning and advices to use other media... well, aint that nice. Have been using NERO since 1996 and it's the best programme for burning. Media Player should stick with PLAYING and not with burning. And internetshops that offer music that can only be burnt with Media Player should STOP with this immediately.

Hell, i like it!
I've never had a problem with WMP. It does all the stuff I think MS says it does and I have found it to be a useful and reliable program that runs well on my systems. In fact I've never has a version that has not performed as I expected. Perhaps I have been fortunate, but it gets a thumbs up from here.

Bad
Not so good, in playing, as winamp is. Not so good, in burning, as Nero is. A problematic product.

A good sounding player but that's it
Windows media player is a good player if you are only interested in playing your media. It is a good cd downloading recorder if you want to put your cds on your hard drive. windows media player 10 will not download from the internet unless you are willing to pay for separate packages. it will not burn unless you purchase separate packages. Microsoft has a habit of selecting our media software and with limitations and so i did not give this player a very good rating.

A little change since wmp 9
When you start to use new WMP, you can find small changes. It's like a new skin for WMP 9 rather than a new version. Certainly, it must include some new features. Try WMP 10 to explore them.

Windows media player/burning/ripping
Horrible program in my opinion. Also filled with security holes and bugs. Recommend NERO for burning and ripping.
