Very good tool.
If you're short on space and are looking for anything hogging your hard disk space, this is a great tool for the job. The picture representation is a great way to show you the files on your computer. If you see a large block, it would be a large file. If you clicked on the large block, its file information will come up, showing you when it was created, how big it is, its location, etc... Very useful, but takes a long time for it to analyze the computer.

A great program thats easy to underestimate
As one reviewer said, this isnt a program that youll use every day, but when you need it, its certainly one of the best tools for the job. First opinions are sometimes deceiving, and the colorful usage/distribution display at the bottom of the screen was a bit disconcerting at first. After a few minutes of playing (who reads help files?), I realized that what looks like pop-art is probably the most powerful feature of this gem of a program. After understanding what it meant and how it worked, I fell in love with this little gem. Anyone can make good use of WDS, but its especially useful for people who have others using their computer. Whether its parents with kids that are filling their hard drives with junk, or IT admins who need to monitor their users disk space. WISHLIST: It would be nice if you could drag and drop from WDS to a folder of your choice (not a big deal though). BOTTOM LINE: WDS is a great program that has significant value. Dont underestimate it.

Great tool
Not a program you are going to use often, but it's handy to have when you are running low on free space as it shows clearly the big files that you have forgotten about - a big avi stands out a mile in a folder of jpgs! - I found 4Gb being wasted on one drive thanks to the colour-coded display on this great little program. Highly recommended.

Another vote of confidence
Decided to chime in on this nice free program and express my gratitude to the developer for making a really useful cross platform app that builds off of tree mapping better than others do. some of the others are mere curiosities, but this one has functional value and i thank them for providing it at snap-files.

Like Sequoiaview, only much better
Another great title from the SourceForge community. This app gives a unique "modern-art"-like view of all the files on your hard drive, making it very easy to spot those space "hogs." Granted, this is not something you're likely to use every day, but it's still very useful and a nice tool to have when your HDD's free space is shrinking fast and you want to know exactly where it all went. Easy to use, stable and highly configurable. A real hoot.

Best free tool i've seen so far for this
Combines the best of Overdisk, Sequoia and Treesize, while outperforming them all.

Nice improvement
Very easy to install, stable program, sexy interface (I really dig the animated pac-man icons moving to show progress). Author gives credit where credit is due for treemaps used with SequoiaView software and improves the interface and functionality with WinDirStat. Recommended!

Very good
This is a small, user friendly way to check your folder size. Specially if you are looking to reduce he space occupied by your files, this is the program.

Unique and helpful
I am running out of room on my drive so I needed a program to help me identify my larger files. After downloading I ran windirstat.exe (instead of setup, I was hoping it could run w/out being installed), and it worked. You pick which drive(s) to examine and then these pacmen go back and forth which was a nice change from the status bars. Drives with bigger files go quicker. Once loaded up I had a lot of fun mousing over different files to see their location. I found several big files that I didn't know I had. This was a really cool idea (color graphic blocks) and very well done.. try it! You don't even have to install it and it's a very small freeware download.
