I've tried VisualCD for a couple of years. Disc catalogs are called "favorites." Searching actually searches "favorites." Removing an indexed disc from the "favorites" must be done manually by navigating to the directory you choose for the favorites. It takes too much manual effort to utilize VisualCD. I can't make it work. I'm not a genius but I can manage search strings, delimiters, and Boolean logic. VisualCD escapes me. The "favorites" aren't properly updated as I index a new disc. Disc indexing is often incomplete. Searches aren't reliable--it misses too many things. I like the guy based on his web site. I think I'd like him if we met. I just can't make VisualCD work as intended. Version 1 was rather stable. Version 2 crashes unless I shut down some functions through the program's GUI.

Disk catalogs are recorded as individual files, but instead of using Windows built-in ability to make a hierarchy of these with folders, invents its own arcane facility of lesser capability (Favorites). More worrisome is the semi-permanent association of a catalog with the particular drive from which it was captured. I was never able to get the automatic cataloging to work.

I have been using Visual CD for all of my data cataloging. In the newest version I had the same crashing problem other users have mentioned. THE FIX: Run the program in compatibility mode for Windows 98/Windows ME. I had constant crashes when using the "advance search" function, but haven't had one since changing the compatibility mode.

Visual CD is very good app, with great features, but it is too buggy. I recommend it to everyone, but don't get to comfortable with it because it crashes all the time. I really hope that bugs will be fixed in next version.

I've used the Offline CD Browser for years to catalog CD's. It works well, but has nowhere near the useful features that Visual CD has. I found it stable and fairly easy to use. Some features could be a bit clearer, but the main task of cataloging was straightforward. I'd suggest that others who had problems may have had them for other reasons, such as theming incompatibilities or scratched CD's. I have not yet experienced any erroneous size determinations, but those would be unimportant to me, anyway. The thumbnail feature is a great idea and a time-saver when searching for those obscure images.

Visual CD is an indispensable tool for me. I use it to maintain a very large collection of installation files, digital camera uploads, MP3s and other audio and multimedia files. Visual CD's option to generate and save thumbnails within its catalogs is a lifesaver. I also use visual CD to make play-lists. I include printout reports of the catalogs in my albums of CDs. There are other features not mentioned in the Snapfiles description of the application, but the thumbnail feature and the tool to generate play-lists are the first that come to mind. I have used Visual CD for more than three years with no problems.I have experienced neither crashes nor significant discrepancies in file-size reports. (Mentioned by others who evaluated this app.) Without Visual CD, my collections of CDs, application-installation files, jpgs, MP3s, and other files would be as useless as a PC without a file manager. Problems with earlier releases? Try this newer release. RamirLopez

Since V.2 had arrived (with thumbnail images), I strongly recommend it. The interface is somewhat unusual, but once you 've learned it(with help file), its very practical.

I've tried about 7 or 8 of these catalog tools. I had a pretty good one...but this Visual CD is DEFINITELY the best one I've come across. I'm not gonna look for any more...this is what I've been looking for...for a long time! Simplicity, accuracy, and efficiency! I love it!

At first this software looked good but then I started testing it and I found out it crashes once every 5-10 times. I make the program scan my files and it doesn't work, there's an error message and it shuts down on a regular basis, so I won't be using this program anymore, too bad because it seemed to work well at first.

The program seems to possess all the functionality one would expect from a utility of this nature, except that I noticed that it incorrectly reported file sizes on ghost9 .v2i image files. It would be nice to be able to collect all disk catalogs under one umbrella but the product does provide other ways to search multiple catalogs at one time, albeit cumbersome. I have uninstalled this product and will continue my search for an accurate free cataloging utility.

I appreciate the time & work that went into this nice tool! BUT, when cataloging my 100 plus CDs, some were not completely ripped! For instance, yesterday i looked for "shaolin.zip", through (Advanced Search), of all my game catalogs. Well it wasn't found. So i used "Cathy", it was found. When cataloging my CD's i had 1 that i had to refresh All of the folders up to 4 times so it cataloged right. That was not the only 1. So seems i will have to dump this software until it can better categorize. But it also has a few crash/hang issues also when doing advanced searches A lot.

I tested 5 or 6 freeware CD cataloging apps, and found Visual CD to be clearly superior. I ve used it from v 1.4 through 1.6, and found each update to be useful. The GUI is not as user-friendly or configurable as I d prefer, but once learned, it s a snap. I use Visual CD frequently and I m glad I ve got it!
