You can SNAP a pic while playing a MPEG video in VirtualDub I use 2 or 3 Snap a pic programs and one can copy the pic and then paste to PhotoFiltre and edited before being saved. Brilliant Most other play video programs just give a BLACK screen for the snapped pic At the moment it will not play MPEG4 but OK for every other format of video I have tried Excellent program

This product is excellent, I would highly recommend it. The only bad thing is there are virtually no instructions on how to use it. For instance, after you download and unzip it, it doesn't install like most programs. I had to click 3 exe files to find the right one. (VirtualDub.exe is the correct one). You will not find this installed on the computer, which can be good or bad depending on your needs. But you could put the program on a usb drive and take it with you The product rocks, it is great and does a wonderful job, but you're gonna have to sit down and play with it. Once you figure out how to use it and what each part does, it is great. Also does not include codecs (and it says so) but you can download those for free from Snapfiles. If the author would put even minimal directions in place it'd be so much better. Note: the author does explain what each tab does in the help file. So after you click VirtualDub.exe hit help menu and begin reading.

This is one of the best, especially for free. It's fairly easy to use, may require some reading but otherwise awesome. My son uses it for most of his video needs. I wouldn't call it a stand alone type app, but in combination with some other video tools, you have a top notch suite of video tools.

I love this program for video editing! It is important to read the docs. The filter functions are very useful and their are plenty of additional filters available on the VirtualDub Site. I use this editor first to resize videos captured with fraps. I am able to shrink down the file size very far using the proper video depth. And can subtitle/scroll credits using the subtitler add-on from their site. I always use Mpeg4 codec to export so that I can add even more cool effects with Windows Movie Maker. The only problem I have had (and it may be my ignorance) is that if I clip the video the sound file also gets clipped, but works fine if the video is finished. I prefer to work in Windows Movie Maker when trying to synchronize with audio. This product is my first step in editing any video! It is very fast for resizing or adding an effect to the total video and exporting the video to .avi.

The only thing I miss in this program that it can't handle MPEG as output format.
