It is worth a try, but does open rar password
Yep, it doesn't open RAR files with password protection, it doesn't prompt to enter pass, just open as if it was empty. Also you can't leave a program open through a zip, and close the zip, it does crash.

Supports many formats
It has a clean interface, quick, and supports many formats. I needed it for tar, gz. works great. for zip archives I still use XP's internal tool.

This is the free zip utility you want
If you're like me, you've been searching for a free zip utility that can get the job done. I set about this task, and tried dozens of "free" and not-so-free zip utilities. Eventually I found TugZip, and this is the one I've chosen to use on 10 PCs. For being a free utility, the interface is fantastic! The icons are very pro. Plus you get advanced features like 256bit AES file encryption/decryption, and advanced compression algorithms. I've been running it for months without any problems. It replaced the [..] trial on my PC, and I have absolutely no regrets using TUGzip. I highly recommend it. Its a great alternative to costly zip programs. (PS -I have no personal interest in Tugzip).

Great except for minor quirks
I was looking for something fast (it handled an archive with 11000+ files with no problem) and powerful (shell integration and user interface) - but not bloated. I can stop looking, although keep in mind that I usually only extract from archives and don't make that many myself... There are some UI issues: no "parent directory" entry in the archive file list (i.e. ".."), no "back" button, "Repair Archive" doesn't use the archive currently open but expects you to find the file all over again, errors aren't reported consistently (e.g. try double clicking on a file in a broken archive)... And there is no "Keep broken files" option... But I'm sure this will improve with time.

Many formats, many features... all for free!
I really love this program because it has everything covered as far as compressed file formats go, and it's completely free of cost, ads, spies, trojans, and google toolbars. You're probably not going to run into a compressed file that TUGZip can't open. I do have two nitpicks: First, I haven't gotten the self-extracting zip file feature to work properly for me. Second, the option to have a compressed file be extracted to the same directory by default as a result of a double-click doesn't seem to work, even though it is a configurable option. Double-clicking just opens the program's interface, which is a bit slow. No problem, however, to simply right-click and extract via the shell menu. Overall, a fantastic program that I have been using and recommending for over a year now. FYI, here's my environment: eMachines T2642, 2.8ghz Celeron, 512 MB SDRAM, Window XP.

It has one feature, which others haven't:
What it makes it outstanding of the others, is it's ability to handle multiple archives at once, when being in the explorer. So it's not only possible to extract multiple archives all in their own, filename-based directories, but you also can check multiple archives at once for errors (all from Windows-Explorer). Search for both features + being freeware at the competitors and you get mad. If you need this features at this price, there is no other choice!

Highest rating -- about the best i've found
Snapfile's rating makes no sense. I've tried many free compression utilities, and used WinZip for a long time too. TUGZip is about the best one out there. I didn't give this 5 stars straight across the board, but any program that is as full-featured as this one has a learning curve. The last install of WinZip that I had didn't include support for .arc, .arj, or .tar files (a commercial compression utility without default support for .tar files?!?) On top of everything else that it offers, it's a paragon of an Open Source app. Just get it.

Tugzip or izarc... decisions decisions
(Why didn't the guys at Snapfiles give this one 5 stars? Oh well...) TUGZip or IZArc? Try them both and keep the one you prefer... or flip a coin... or keep 'em both. Anything else I could add would only mirror Floele's sentiments (although I disagree with his/her assessment of IZArc's development "pace"). With serious players like these in the ZIP utility arena, a user has no real reason to shell out cash in order to get a quality archiving utility.

I tried a few zip programs
This one is the best. Faster and simpler than winzip. It works everytime for me.

Best compression utility of all i tried...
I tried all the popular free ZIP programs already: IZArc, ZipGenius, 7-ZIP and Fil-Zip, but I personally think TugZip (3) is the best of them now. ZipGenuis I did not like because of the complicated interface and bad shell extensions as well as file-icons, IZArc is developing very slow if at all at the moment, interface is a bit outdated and it lacks of some features (like Ultra compression for 7-ZIP, bad implementation of tar.gz archives), 7-ZIP is quite basic and the only really good at is the compression-format, 7-ZIP, itself, and Fil-ZIP simply can't compete with any of the programs mentioned above since it does not seem to develop any further too. TugZIP instead has everything I need: A nice, clean and easy-to-use GUI, many features, including creation of SFX-archives for various formats, a good handling of tar.gz archives, Ultra-compression for 7-ZIP and last but not least it is also very light-wheight and fast. Thanks for this great piece of software.
