I have used SM for several years. I have always thought the product was a 4/5 on the review. I have upgraded to SM7 and experienced several problems. I thoroughly searched the site's knowledgebase and the problems were not documented. I tried to contact support on 4 different occasions. I continue to receive lots of automatically generated emails, however, nothing addressing the questions I have asked. It is unfortunate that Iolo has built a fairly solid product and combined it with a much lesser quality of customer service. I will be researching another product for my system maintenance needs. I hope this review is helpful. Thanks.

I made a negative review, but that was before they came out with the latest update. Seems to work quite well. No sure if it actually helps my computer, but it does seem to make it respond faster when opening windows. But it doesn't seem to hurt, either. There is a problem right now with the Spython definitions,(they are working on a fix) but other than that, it seems to work well. Should you buy it?? Well, go ahead and take it for a spin (trial). I like it. Your results may vary.

This program locks up every time when I use the repair feature and it gets to the point of cleaning shortcuts. I googled this online and see now that this is very common with 6. I spent $49 on this and I might as well throw it in the garbage now. their Tech support is horrible. DO NOT purchase this program if you value your money.

This is a very good program, but just beware of the system mechanic PRO you have to be an advanced user to know what u are doing on that product. I once had it , it has a lot of registry pages on it I just clicked on one and it took most of my windows files away. But this version its very goos speeds up the computer and gives it a very good clean up. I highly recommend it.

I made the mistake of "upgrading" to System mechanic 6, and like some others, contacted tech support, except they did respond, with "updates" that did not fix the problems. It kept telling me that repairs were needed on drive C:, and it would freeze up while removing broken shortcuts. I believe they released a beta, and I paid $30 for the "upgrade". (My disk analysis for my drive passed with flying colors) I uninstalled 6, and still use System Mechanic 5. Don't make the same mistake I did. I should have tried it for 30 days before even thinking of buying it.

I have used version 5 since it came out. It works OK. I bought the upgrade to 6.0 and boy was that a mistake. I've had problems with the system analysis and optimizer and have submitted three service tickets without any response. I contacted the sales and service twice and again no reply. IOLO is off my list for all time.

I installed sys mech 6 and did all the recommended actions on both my networked computers. Got annoyed with the constant update requests and pop-ups it caused with zone-alarm so in uninstalled it. Later, i tried retrieving a file from a shared folder on my network and that's when the realization started sinking in. I can no longer see any of my shared folders on the other computer, and vice versa. When i reinstalled sysmech it, there was no way to reverse the earlier changes. (even tho there were still backup files left by sysmech previously) I have spent many hours scouring the net for a way to get my shared folders back with no avail. Everything seems to be correct and as it should be. (Even within policies and such.) Bye bye system mechanic, when i finally reinstall windows i won't be 'trying' you again.

The program is a bomb. Very useful set of features for everyday maintenance of the system. The price is a bit high though. I recommend System Mechanic Professional since it has got some additional features like drive scrubber, system shield, data recovery... Very intuitive and good interface! definitely a "must have" app

This is a wannabee program. Exactly what it wants to be isn't clear. That it is too freaking expensive is quite clear.

I've been using System Mechanic for years now and I have been very happy with it. I have had problems with the problems with it but IOLO tech support has always helped me in a timely manner, and they keep the program updated regularly. One of my favorite features is the uninstall utility. System Mechanic will let you select any program (even if is not listed in your "add/remove" programs list) and it will find all traces of that programs installation and uninstall them for you, well worth the price alone! Another great feature in the latest version is the program mover. Using the same ability as in the uninstall, it will find all traces of an installed program and move them to a new location. I can't help but recommend the latest version.

I have been using System Mechanic since Version 3! I love the Features it has and it does a Great Job. The Only problem I have is after I spent the money to get the commerical version it still wants you to upgrade to the Newest Version. Nags you to death. I did upgrade to version 4 pro now it is wanting me to upgrade again to version 5 when version 3 did all I needed it to do. In fact I use ver. 3 more than I do ver 4 now. For me to Upgrade to ver 5 someone would have to hold a shotgun to my head. I do recommend this utilitiy to keep your system in good shape. If they would only Quit Begging everyone to UPGRADE it would be a Lot better for everyone. Flash32

If anyone purchases this software I hope you never have a problem with it and try to get support. I bought it, had problems and never got any help from IOLO's so called tech support. It is the worst tech support I have ever had for ANY product I have bought.

I installed the trial version and started cleaning. I loved it--very simple touse. Then my computer started spontaneously rebooting. Tech support said I either didn't reboot enough between cleans or I cleaned TOO much and screwed up my system. I had already uninstalled so couldn't "recover" my cleans (although the rebooting stopped). I was also left with a fully-functioning Incinerator. I tried reinstalling and uninstalling again, and this time, I couldn't uninstall--I got an error message saying it was already uninstalled!! The only thing that semi-worked was using Norton Systemworks to uninstall--and even then, I had to do it mostly manually. PLUS, I still have a screwed-up Incinerator icon on my desktop (well, no icon, no link, but I can't delete it). I've run four registry cleaners on my system and have gotten rid of most traces--except for that dang incinertor. I don't know what happened on my system, but I'm sorry I ever tried this.

I've been using this software for ages and I've never had any problems with it. It has a ton of tools and I use them all. I currently have the pro-version which comes with Panda platinum anti-virus and firewall. Also, the updates feature works fine. System Mechanic is a great program. Get it and I'm sure you'll think so to.

If you only have one clean-up program, this should be it. It is the safest one to clean registry, junk files, etc. For novice or pro, this program will optimize your computer, clean selected spyware (keystroke, etc.), optimize internet connection, securely delete files (with incinerator function), optimize memory, and much more. I own several computers (with Win XP, Win2000, and Win 98) and this is the only registry clean-up program that has never screwed up a system. Get it!

Amateurish ugly user interface, slow and buggy utilities, extremely slow and unsafe disk defragger, and a bunch of tweeks. I cannot suggest this multi-awarded (!!!) utility to nobody except kids. Sorry...

I have used System Mechanic for the past four years, and feel the latest release is the best to date. There are many features to use, and simplicity is the rule. The latest updates are always available. The cost for the programs is somewhat higher than similar products, but you get what you pay for, and System Mechanic is actually cheaper when considering what the program has available for keeping your computer clean and problems free.

This is a great software to keep Windows running smoothly. It does a complete periodic service of your software, ensuring that it does not lock up. Only one piece of advice- if you don't know what you are doing, don't use the "Delete duplicate files" function, or you may wind up without some essential system files. I wish the developers would fix this, so that it becomes idiot proof!!

My system was unaccountably locking up. I tried Norton, I tried OnTrack. Neither could find the problem. I ran System Mechanic as last resort. It checked my registry and carefully explained the problem. My only grief with it has been the Auto Update feature locking the system requiring a cold boot to get around.
