Maybe I'm just an overall Microsoft hater, but this program is great. It offers much better sound quality than WMP and looks much better. I have been using it the past couple of years and it has never failed me (a few crashes when launching some software that its incompatible with, but thats normal for a lot of software). I wish they would update this, but it is great, as is.

This is the program for you. All I wanted was a small footprint on my machine to listen to MP3s. I was not looking for anything fancy or something that had a lot of bells and whistles. I did not need it to balance my checkbook or monitor my network usage, just play music!

Pros: Fast, stable, versatile. Really nice, and usable, interface. Wonderful sound, excellent EQ, uses Winamp DSP plugins if you need them. Skins if you want them. Truly excellent encoding (file conversion) utility. Loads of plug-ins, including, of all things, a proper Ogg Vorbis encoder. Very nice playlist handling, and by far the best tag editor I've so far seen. Cons: no MIDI support; no Real Audio (.ram, etc.) support. But there are plenty of free MIDI players, and a Real alternative for the rare occasions you need to play those. Overall: one of the best everyday players, lovely to look at and to use, and some very cool extras on the side.

It's been almost 2 years since there was an update, and no new plugins in quite a while either. It lacks Flac support. But if you like wiedo skins, go for it. I prefer Winamp Lite, (not the full bore Winamp which is suffering serious bloat). Winamp Lite sounds better, has Flac support and is just as easy to use.

Wanted something to play mp3s that didn't have unwanted "extras" like some other programs. Quintessential was just the ticket. If you want a nice, clean, mp3 player with a lot of good basic features, this is nearly ideal.

Nice to the eyes. Nice for the ears. Awful equalizer except for MP3's which is OK. Rips CD's to .ogg and .mp3 nicely. Like all the players...not 100%. Worth trying!

Be rebel, unistall Winamp out of your system ;) This software has all functions you need from player. And youll see it as easy to use as Winamp. Also nice variety for new skins.

Yes, it's cool looking... Yes the skins are snazzy... But MP3 players should above all else SOUND GOOD! After trying this puppy out, my "golden" ears tell me this player is lacking in the sound department; especially the EQ, which is among the worst I've heard. If you need to have the skinned look, stick with Winamp 2.95 (Winamp's EQ sounds better, and unlike QCD, it's able to process uncompressed WAVs). For the best sound, go for XMPlay--you won't regret it.

This mp3 player is awesome! I was using Musicmatch jukebox basic but after trying Quintessential it took me about two seconds to decide to replace it. This is a great player, and unbelievably it's free!

This player makes an excellent CD player, and does a great job at playing MP3 files, as well. If you re not concerned with a built-in library, then QCD is for you. The interface is too cool for words!
