Not for vista?
I am using the Process Tamer since long and I am really happy with it! Unfortunately I can not get it running on Vista.

Excellent piece of software
Bit of a fraggle having to renew freeware license every six months (or make a financial donation) but well worth the effort. If, like me, you download and view multiple video snips then you likely will find everything gradually (eventually) grinds to a halt or gets sooooo slow it takes forever for anything to happen. This program resolves that - even on Windows XP (which ain't supposed to have this problem). The configuration menu / interface may prove a bit daunting to anyone not computer literate but the program chugs along quite happily in its 'as supplied' mode - so no real worries there. Do I like it? Yes, very much and have no hesitation in highly recommending it.

Surprised this isn't rated higher by others
I'm one of those people who only has a 2.5 gig machine with 512 ram, who wants to work at ten things at once. I play a game while waiting for the dial up to open 3 or 4 pages on Ebay, or Google, while printing out my latest software code or typing a letter. You get the message; the computer can't run all that stuff and all the little background widgets without totally bogging down. Well I must admit I was sceptically about this one. Heh! it works like a charm. I can even play music while multitasking. Seems to be stable too. Must say it's interface is not for the weak at heart, but I admit I haven't read all the help stuff yet. Sure does what it's supposed to do on my xp machine. Little expensive for my tastes, (costs time to download freeware) but I'd do it again.

Very handy and stable
Wow. This is a nice little utility. It works as advertised. Very, very handy; this is what freeware is all about. In addition it is very stable. One of the problems with freeware is that they can be unstable and rough around the edges--this program is neither.

Deleted review?
my only concern is that there is only one option to set in the ApplicationOverrides.txt file. If I set a program to run HIGH, Process Tamer will also knock it back down. It seems a little bit self defeating to me if you actually WANT a certain program run at high priority. Maybe there can be an option to have multiple rules for programs in future releases?

The new version 2 beta has been released (visit homepage). It has a nice GUI for setting rules so you dont have to manually edit the overrides file anymore, and i think your issue is fixed; if not or if you have further suggestions, please see that page above for the forum for process tamer. i d be very interested in hearing about any feature requests, etc.

Two thumbs up!
This is just the little program I have been searching for. It does exactly what it was developed to do. Change the priorities of certain programs as they get to raise the CPU level to an annoying point that the system slows to a crawl. By lowering and raising the priorities of certain programs at crucial times stops the system from overloading and stalling. A must have for anyone who wants to speed up their system at crucial times.

Does what it says
Works great. Now if it would only run silent and add a logging function.
