First, it took 17 hours to clone my 120 gig C: drive. When I booted up, Explorer couldn't find the clone which was working fine before I ran Clone Maxx. Device Manager found it as an unknown type. Clone Maxx said it was there. Changing the BIOS didn't work. So, I ran the Western Digital utility that came with the drive. It said, Oh, you have a drive that is not recognized by your system. Would you like that fixed? Sure, I answered. It immediately re-partitioned the drive which destroyed all the data on it. So I'm back where I started after wasting a lot of time. Clone Maxx is worth what it cost - nothing.

Worked perfectly, even with Norton GoBack installed (which had given me problems with other copy programs). For a 40G hard drive it took less than 20 minutes with my older system (Dell 8200, 2.8 cpu, 768 ram).

This disk clone software does exactly what it says. It doesn't fall over at the first glitch, It tries to run disks at their fastest speed; but does progressively degrade the interface when errors are reported.

If you don't have a motherboard with a VIA or Intel chipset you'll need a lot of time ;-) My sister's hardrive was going out when I found this. Tried it in her computer, that uses some SiS chipset, and it estimated it would take about a month in PIO 4 mode. On their website it says "Our software is optimized for the following chipsets: Intel 82371, Intel 82801E, Intel 82801E, Intel 82801BA(M), Intel 82801AA,AB, Intel 82801BA,DC, VIA VT8233(A,C), VIA VT8231, VIA VT8235, VIA VT82C68B, VIA VT8233. So I moved the drives to my computer, which uses VIAs VT8367 northbridge, and it took about 40 minutes. It worked flawlessly.

My system is Fast with new UDMA Drives (30GB source to 80GB target). This program took a long time analizing my drives and kept falling back to a slower DMA speed and finally settled on PIO mode. Estimated time to copy source disk to empty target drive was initially 34 hours! After 4 hours and with no apparent activity, I pressed escape to get out of the program. Unfortunately, It had destroyed the Master Boot Record of the target drive and made it unreadable. I had to repartition and reformat it. This type of program I can do without!
