Great for serious web surfers
I have used Opera for years as my main desktop browser and it's still a great browser for serious web surfers and web developers. It's much easier to secure than IE, has better features than FireFox out of the box, and renders pages fast. The main problem with Opera is that there are sites that don't work with it (especially Javascript), so you still need to fire up IE or FF sometimes. But I still use Opera as much as I can. Opera works very well on a smartphone or PDA and can sync with the desktop version.

Simply the best
I have been using Opera almost since I first ever had internet access. I've also used IE and Firefox but neither can compete on speed with Opera. Plus there are no plugins to download and install when you want it to do a particular thing, Opera does it all. A format and reinstall doesn't leave you searching for all those plugins you had installed before. I carry Opera portable with me at all times because I just cannot go back to IE on other people's computers. Try it, give it a chance - like many new programs on your computer you will need to take a bit of time to tweak it how you want it. It's worth it.

What are they thinking?
This applies to version 9.6. 1) Opera imports all bookmarks from Firefox, WITHOUT ASKING FIRST! That is exactly what I did NOT want. There is no excuse for that. If I want to import bookmarks, I can do that (in any other browser) in 30-60 seconds! 2) OK, I really want to use Opera, so I will just manually delete the Bookmarks, so I can have a clean start. WRONG! I can only delete the bookmarks that are in folders. There is no way (I could find) to delete bookmarks that are not in a folder. In fact, in "Manage Bookmarks" the bookmarks that are not in folders do not even appear, so I cannot delete them, put them in a folder, or do anything with them. 3) There is no excuse for making me go to the Help files, to do something this basic. However, I'm giving Opera every chance possible. NOTHING in the help files about deleting bookmarks. 4) That is as far as I got, I never did any web surfing with Opera. 5) Opera is not intuitive, I'm removing Opera.

Not too bad
I didn't mind trying out opera again as I had a few other times. I think it's very fast and stable no doubt and has some decent features. I still like Firefox interface and use better though. Opera would definitely be right up there though and I feel between this and Firefox, there is no wrong or right, just opinion and is what separates the two. Either you like Opera or you like another browser. Either way, I found it much better than prior versions and if ever I begin to not like the fox, then Opera would be my main choice and is an excellent browser.

What else do you need?
I have been using Opera for many years now. What attracts me most is the speed and ease of use. On my computers it consistently outperformed IE based browsers as well as Firefox. Chrome is possibly faster but it looks too spartanic to me. I spend most of my computer time on the Internet so a browser should also have a pleasant feel and look to it. Particularly interesting is the Speed Dial mode which gives you easy access to up to 9 favorite websites every time you open a new tab. They are visible as little webpages on the new tab. Just click any of them and off you go. Needles to say that you can decide yourself which websites to include. Overall, you can't go wrong with this one.

Ok but ?
This Browser Is Alright I Guess. But I Had To Uninstall This As There Was A conflict Between My Zone Alarm Firewall And Arovax Shield (That Stops And Blocks Tracking Cookies) on my Computer. One Or The Other Would Not Load When I Turned On My Computer Everyday.Had To Keep Re Booting My Computer To Get Either One To Work Properly. This Was Not Good For My Computer.

Almighty opera
This browser, has many features built in to it. That IE has to use BHOs. That eats up system resources. Opera, is faster then IE, doesn't use any BHOs, Great support, on Operairc, highly configurable UI, to look like IE 6, or 7. This browser is Highly recommended. I'll recommend it before I would IE.

Excellent internet browser; forget all others
All the features like download manager, torrent downloader, ad/pop-up blocking, password manager are integrated within the browser itself; so no need to install additional utilities. Opera is extremely fast and light weight. Users can customize browser looks according to own choice. Content blocking is just fabulous and very easy yet highly effective. Hats-off to the Opera developers.

Opera a great choice.
I had Opera before it was free. Bought two licenses on a two-for-one deal. It was great then and even greater now that it is free. Opera is a safe, actively developed browser. It is fast and customisable. I have found that over the years Opera has improved their page rendering on web sites. I don't see that problem much any more where I surf. There are lots of decorative themes for a variety of personal tastes. Multiple tabs are still a main stay with Opera. It's my favorite web browser and has served me well for 4+ years.

Needs a lot of work
In modern computing speed is not an issue on any system i make and sell to my clients. everything is fast on a modern system with a modern ISP. one can cry how fast one thing is to another and it means nothing to those of us in the 21st century with modern machines that do not use old 32 bit processing or dial-up. it's all fast now. so the important thing in a modern age of 64 bit broadband computing is never speed or resource usage. modern machines have on average 2 gigs of memory and dual core processing. if you are a gamer or a multimedia editor then speed and resource usage is an issue but not web browsing. the critical issue with web browsing is security. modern web connections are very fast and always on. one needs a browsing engine that is no way tied to the operating system. Firefox is the one for me and my customers. Opera is ok but its adblocking is terrible and its widgets are terrible. Firefox 1st Opera 2d ie and its ilk = 0.

Opera is a gem - well above all others
When I switched from IE to FF about a year ago, it was like going from night to day. The difference was shocking. About 2 months ago I tried Opera and was shocked again. It's the most pleasant browser aesthetically, very nicely designed, joy to use, beautiful integration of an excellent email client wit spam filters and RSS feeds. Opera should be the king of all browsers. This is a lesson in design with sophistication and simplicity.

Happy to be back using opera
Oh, i am so happy back using Opera. Been using firefox for a few months, but never really could configure it how i wanted it. This might be a small point for some people, but i could never figure out how to turn off sounds and that was the tipping point for me. I also have been trying IE7 for a week, not good in my opinion, too many nagging warnings about activex and things. Opera just lets me get on with my browsing, i love it.

Very good browser for free
This software really suits me. I will try to compare Opera with MS Internet Explorer. First of all opera has great mouse controls. Second: all new windows are opened in the upper opera tray, instead of placing them in taskbar. Third: Opera has a useful transfer list, that shows your downloads. Fourth: maximum of working space. IE takes much space for its huge toolbars. Fifth: mail client. Sixth: voice controlling. Seventh: Wand. That tool helps log in on different sites. And in the end Opera supports RSS feeds ant notes. I think it is enough to consider it a better browser than Internet Explorer, but unlike IE, Opera can't surf your drives and folders.

Best browser
I think that Opera is the most convenient browser. Because of its large set of features Opera provides users with additional opportunities that other browsers don't. One more Opera' s advantage over its contenders is its connection speed. The only disadvantage of Opera is its incompatibility with some certain sites.

I have used Opera for years and even paid for the ad-free version. Now that's it's free, there is no excuse for NOT using it! Although not compatible with 100% of web sites (maybe 99.99%), this browser is great! Smooth, fast, clean, and very intuitive.

Can your internet get better than this??
Speed, feeds and widgets, oh my! I've been using Opera since version 6. Version 9 is a tremendous all-in-one internet tool. Security, web standards, customization, skins, forums, community, mail and more. Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox or whoever could only dream up what the folks from Norway have already done. This nonsense of "IE only" web programming will eventually go the way of the Berlin Wall. Opera not only enhances the usage of the internet, they make it happen!

Fast and smooth
I have been using Opera for over 4 years now, maybe more. The latest version is FREE, removing the last excuse for IE victims to not seek help. I cannot imagine anyone who has used Opera for more than a week, to ever move back to IE or even Mozilla. Mozilla Firefox is similar to Opera (as well as an ally in the war against IE Domination). However, in an attempt to pack in all features, it is a bulky program (much like IE). Opera on the other hand, at just 3.5MB, offers most functions at BLAZING FAST speeds! The web page rendering itself is quite fast and recovering pages from Cache is faster. Much better than IE or Firefox. You can navigate most of the functions without needing the mouse, using KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS. Negatives: Websites that use IE proprietary stuff do not work well. Example: www.citibank.com Barring a few (barely 2%) websites that are not written as per generic standards, Opera fits ALL requirements! 10 Star Rating :-)

Norwegian army knife browser
Opera takes the opposite approach of Internet Explorer and Firefox in that tons of features are available out of the box. It is still very customizable, and its size and speed are better than other browsers . It's easy to disable things you don't want to use (e.g. mail/chat). It also has the best security record and is the fastest to FIX major security holes than any other major browser (secunia.org). Period. The forums are very active and moderated, so new users should feel free to ask questions there. Tons of skins, custom buttons, scripts, INI setups, etc. (nontroppo.org/wiki/Opera, my.opera.com). Only 5.5 MB installed on your drive. You can also partially emulate Opera in Firefox (Andrew Gregory or firefoxopera.blogspot.com). As for those "IE-only" sites, spoofing works 95%: "Identify as Internet Explorer" or Mozilla. Here's to a mid-90's dot-com that survived the burst and is still kicking.

Solid, with growing pains
Opera is now a pretty solid browser and it has some features others don't have like the ability to disallow frames, but it still has its problems. While it will use older Windows media players, it chokes on V9, and has trouble with some standards like CSS2. As the web matures, Opera is struggling to keep up and add new, distinguishing features, but doing a pretty decent job. Can't stand the ad, though, and I'm too into free to pay to remove it. I've kept it for testing purposes, but I never browse with it. Its not something I'd put on my Mom's desktop. [Editor: the latest version of Opera does not display ads anymore]

Still the best!
Where to begin? I have had a passionate love affair with Opera for YEARS! I've used it since version 5.12, and every version is better than the last! I can't even begin to say all the great things about Opera - you just have to try it yourself. All the "must-have" features in other browsers were in Opera first, usually for quite some time! And for all those who think Opera's UI is lame, I will admit it can take some work to get it all tweaked to perfection - but once you do, no browser compares, in terms of productivity. Here's my layout, below. You can't get much simpler (and classier!) than this.

Fast? irritating yes!
Like I want to learn another browser configuration.. it is free and does work but it is not fast (compared with avant or greenbrowser) but the thing I dislike the most is that when a page is loading the hourglass on the mouse pointer is moving - I do not see this on an IE based browser , firefox does it sometimes but not nearly as much. This is a good browser but makes me want to hit my monitor with a baseball bat (that is not a good feeling)

Tired of IE "Screw-Up's" and feeling rebellious one day I downloaded and installed Opera 8.5 (what a difference in size!) Anyway, started messing with it and was soon overtaken by it's simplicity, ease if use and especially (and I cannot overstate this part since I use dialup) SPEED! I'm still learning about all of it's little extras like the "Wand" (RoboForm) and advanced "Bookmark" system (Favorites) and am extremely close to being able to thumbmynose at IE. Oh yeah, I should mention "no ads. . ."

Don't expect to see all websites with this.
This browser is ok, however the newest version 8 has some issues. I maintain websites with a javascript based menu similar to a lot of sites. As a matter of fact I use the same program some major companies use. I now find that my menus do not work properly on this browser. According to the makers of my menu they have to work with Opera to redesign the script so it will once again work properly. This means possibly purchasing a new license and reincorporating the new script into the website. By monitoring my site I see the only visit I have ever had with Opera is 1 out of thousands and that was my test visit. Not worth spending all the time to make my site work with this browser. If you do decide to use this browser just do not make it the only one you have. There are better choices out there for you. I gave this a poor value based on price because even free with ads displayed is not good if it don't give you backward support.

Premium support for usd 39
I found that Opera operates like a open source org, not a software company. As such, they shouldn't charge money for what they call 'premium support'. As near as I can tell it consists of one gentleman, (name) Technical Service Consultant, Opera Software. He has a very straightforward approach to paid support. He never burdens either you or himself with queries about system or environment, or embarrasses with questions about level of expertise, or bothers to clutter email with lengthy explanations or possible solutions. He simply refers you to FAQ links. I already know how to consult FAQ's. I didn't need to pay Opera to enlighten me on that. I requested a refund, but haven't heard anything. Based on the technical support, I don't envision the sales support to be of any higher calibre, and I don't expect to ever see my USD 39 again.

Better than all the rest
I've been a user since version 4.0 and this browser is awesome! Better security than either IE or Firefox, fast page rendering and a huge number of features. The pop-up blocking in Opera is light years ahead. Some find the price of registering a turn off, but for $40 you get a license for all platforms, plus more features and security. To me that's well worth the price.

The best web browser
Pros: Opera is my favorite web browser. It is loaded with tons of useful features such as a clean interface, tabbed browsing, pop up blocking, integrated search, customization, password manager, voice browsing, fast forwarding, sessions, mouse gestures, quick preferences, encryption, a security bar, a built in mail client, irc chat, skins, language support, zoom pages, user style sheet, small screen mode, standards support, info panel, reload from cache, full-screen mode, and kiosk mode. Opera is extremely secure. Also, Opera is the fastest web browser. It is faster than firefox, Internet explorer, or even k-meleon. Opera is available for Linux, windows, mac, freebsd, and several other platforms. Opera is a browser I highly recommend. Cons: Opera has an ad unless you pay 39 dollars.

I have tried them all just about. IE6, Avant, Mozilla, Netscape. This is by far one of the nicest ones out there. I had been a long time Mozilla user but I started having to many problems with it. So I tried all the others and this is the one I have settled on. It has alot of features and has alot going on but I like that. And it is faster than all of the others and takes up less system resources. Don't worry about the adbar either it takes up very little room and is unintrusive. Nothing like the bar at the top in Netzero.

I can't use Roboform or other form fillers with it. The form filler that is uses is poor as it only allows you to fill in one line at a time. I do recommended it for stability though. There have been a few websites that hunged or closed my other browsers, but not Opera.

The best browser, bar none
Snapfiles only gives Opera 4 stars! It deserves 5 stars easily. I will not use anything else. Opera has it all. A great email program, auto-login, tabbed browsing, top notch security, speed, etc., etc. I have tried all the alternatives and Mozilla suite is the only other one I would use. I also keep Faststone 4in1 browser for its terrific and simple http server and ftp client. What does turn people off about Opera is the big ad in the toolbar. Why don't they lose that?

The best web browser
Opera is a browser i highly recommend. Opera is filled with useful features like tabbed browsing, a password manager, integrated email and chat, browser identification, skins, and page zooming. opera is fast too. faster than IE and Netscape, or even Firefox. not only that opera is very secure and a very small download. overall opera is a browser i highly recommend.

Opera best browser on earth
Well,I would like to mention about the Opera browser in the following words: "to surf is human, to Opera is divine"!..it is a browser with such unbelievable features like mouse gestures, in built pop up control, a POP , IMAP mail reader,RSS , XML READER.it also includes a CHAT Feature.moreover it is most user-friendly browser ever made!!!.i have tried Netscape,IE , Mozilla, avant browser but Opera is the fastest browser as its logo says."the fastest browser on earth".its bookmarks(favorites)organization is very cute.Opera has only 1 problem. Its addictive , once u start using opera you want it wherever you are.also it has innumerable shortcuts keys that help to browse the web with keyboard!!you can even redine in built shortcut keys &define new keys for various operation.it's most out of 3.4 mb!.Its interface is fully skinnable.Forget IE it will just add on security features and will pay no attention for surfing speed..Well GO FOR OPERA.

Had to look for the ads!
Opera has the least intrusive ads you can imagine; they just blend in, inside their own little t'bar. NO picture ads, NO onscreen targets jumping all over the place. The interface is skinnable, and as far as speed, Opera leaves IE6 in the dust. I feel like my internet connection ate vitamins and got a turbo shot. I had so many problems w/ IE6, Opera is like breathing in clean, fresh air on a muggy, humid day. Just wish I'd taken a look sooner.

I would avoid any adware software! This is one of them... Use firefox, mozilla or Netscape instead!! Unless you pay Opera... To me firefox is better alternative!

Five star recommendation
One of the best browsers I've ever seen. It is much faster than IE, interface is user-firendly. Features are awesome... IRC support, quick download, pop3, you name it... And, the most important thing: probably the safest browser on the net. Install Opera, and forget about tracking cookies, data miners and stuff like that. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Good...but
This is a great browser and one of the quickest when it comes to Linux. Love all the features and the ease of use that Opera brings to the table. BUT...with all the features that it offers, there are many others out there that offer most and it is all for free. Have we not been there, done that by now?

Give me something less confusing...
Opera is a superb alternative to an all MS World. But even if it is good without any doubt I find it messy. The ads are ugly and only make it more confusing. Simplicity is a must for any good IE competitor and Opera fails. That is why I am sticking to Firefox. Sorry guys. Make it simpler for the average guy. Make it more intuitive and understandable. Get rid of the absurd idea that you have to pay for a browser. Do all that and maybe you avoid this world to become an All Firefox World.

More fast than Internt Explorer, more fast than Mozilla-based browsers. Very actual for modem/GPRS users. Also its economic your internet traffic. 3. It is FREE with banner but does not install any spyware. 4. And more... 5. Try it and you love it. Install Opera and put your IE into trash!

Just didn't have it!!!
The browser worked for awhile then started to "skip" or freeze!!!, the email client that's built in is great they should market that "alone"

Fantastic
This is by far, the best of the best. People who down this program just aren't prepared to learn how to use it to it's full potential. You should stay away. Get something easier for you to learn. For me You can't beat it

Useable but not up to competition
If Opera was the only browser safe from threats of the internet, it would justify its weird operation. It is not very similar to other browsers or mail programs and it requires more commitment than is justified, considering good ol' IE, its clones and Mozilla products. If you want to challenge yourself, here is a good puzzle. For smooth browsing and email, go elsewhere.

Actually worth paying money for
Most people now use their web browser more then any other program on their computer. Opera is like a fully fledge office for the web or something, you can chat on IRC, read/write e-mail, chat on USENET, it's great it's fast and after it blocks out everyone else's adverts it's own ones aren't so annoying. I think it's worth paying for but then it is still the only one of the three major browsers that you do have to pay for.

Why pay? because it works!!!
When Opera came out in its 3.* version, in Windows 98, over a 56K phone modem, I gave it a try and found it to be a bit clunky and "foreign." When the announcement for the final 7.5 out of beta came around, I thought, why not give it another try. I have been bouncing from Mozilla to IE clones, never finding one that was perfect. I have found it. Since loading it I have not turned it off. It's email, Usenet and RSS readers have a learning curve, but once understood, make so much sense. F11 not only gives you full screen, but becomes a commercial quality display program I plan to use at meetings. With only 384 characters left, there isn't enough room to fully review this program. Go to the opera.com website and operajournal.com to get a fuller understanding of its full potential. Before they start playing the get off the stage music, I just want to mention the ease of Blog creation there as well.

My favorite, most used software
The browser is top notch. The email client alone, M2, is worth the money for registration alone.

Opera 7 is impressive!
The long-awaited final version Opera 7 is finally out, and it was worth waiting for! Opera 7 features a slick new interface (which is easily configurable, despite what you my read in other comments). Opera 7 also has a password manager (The Wand), a innovative e-mail client/newsreader (M2), a site navigation bar, and the too-cool "fast-forward" button. I have had very few rendering problems, and those are most likely due to non-standard programming. Opera 7 works just fine with my banking site (Bank of America). The best thing about Opera is probably the speed. The rendering speed versus IE is noticeably quicker! If you don t mind a fairly non-intrusive banner ad, and a dialog box at launch, you can use Opera for free. Opera is a browser worth paying for!
